I've always said that MoreThan pet insurance is great, and they were good when I had to claim for George, but all of my renewal premiums have gone up with them!
Alfie - never claimed - now £14.99 a month
George - £16.99 a month
Bomber - never claimed - was £11.19 a month last yr, now £14.60 a month
Daisy - never claimed - was £7.99 a month last yr, now £11.31
(Watson and Leo are insured elsewhere)
Bear in mind as well that MoreThan have introduced this policy whereby you now have to pay 10% of the claim cost plus the excess.
I called them this morning, they said that it is the rising cost of vets bills etc but I wonder whether it is because I have claimed for George that the others have gone up?
I found this last time I renewed with MoreThan. Unfortunately I'm tied in with them with Mojo, as I've already had a claim for ED.
I asked them to explain WHY there had been such a large rise in premiums and I was told firstly it was down to inflation, which at the time we were in Deflation so I corrected them there and asked them for the REAL reasons. They then went away and rang me back later. I was then told it was because pedigree dogs and especially Labradors have much higher incidents of Claims due to genetic problems. I asked why my Poodle's insurance (£18 compared to £28 for Mojo and £23 for Pickle) was so much cheaper then, being as she is a pedigree and was told Poodles have one of the fewest amount of claims, compared to other pedigree breeds. If my dogs had been cross breeds, then unless they were considered a "dangerous" cross, their insurance premiums would have been less than half what I'm paying now......I guess I won't be having anymore Pedigree dogs then .
I insured with More Than last year and the premium was £15 per month with a discount. I have not had the renewal through yet - I have had no claims but it will be interesting to see how much they try to put it up!
I just despair at the cost of pet insurance It's a very expensive business, though, I suppose, not as expensive as paying out of your own pocket if you suddenly need to be paying out for a chronic or pricey condition.
We've just got a renewal through for Chief with Greenbee, £268 per year/£22 a month, £75 excess - not impressed! We've three dogs insured with them with no claims for any. I've got Rocky with M&S who claimed £7,000 for his HD in the first year, yet his premium is always the lowest by far somehow
I don't insure my dogs, but save the premium instead, have done for years. You are spending £57.89 a month so nearly £700 per year, over 10 years that £7000! By the time you add in the excess, which I believe was quoted as £70 with all the bumff I received with my new puppy is it worth it? Maybe I will have to eat my words if one of my dogs needs hugely expensive treatment but I would still rather have the money in my bank account than the insurance companies. The incidents I've had have been various amounts but usually under £100 so only £30 to claim back at most, these have been a couple of adder bites which were about £50 each, a damaged claw removed which was about £130, my old dog fitting which was £500 and he died anyway, they were suggesting brain surgery and pace makers but I wouldn't have put him through that anyway, my older bitch who had an enlarged spleen, liver and blood cancer which they could do nothing for and most recently ongoing ear and itchy problems which have cost about £400, and I very much doubt would have been covered as this dog has had these problems all her life, only now getting worse hence the more expensive treatment up till now its been ear drops etc at no more than £30 a time. Not advising anyone to not insure their dogs I know others will say well I've spent X grand on my dog so it was worth it, all I'm saying is just do some sums and see if it adds up for you.
Lottie is with Marks and Spencer and it costs us £14.69 per month or something. Unfortunately, we just refuse to pay the premium for Brogan who has ongoing problems and would cost us almost £40 per month Unfortunately this does mean that we have to pay for all of his vets bills but we dont think he will have a long life which is very sad for us but he is just deteriorating week by week so we could be in for an expensive couple of years
I remember posting a while back saying that when I asked a friend for recommendations for dog insurance she said dont go with More Than. And she works for them!! But then loads of peeps piled in praising them so.............................
Tarka's got lifetime cover with petguard and we made one claim last year. This year the premium went down from £17 to £16 per month
We are with Argos and pay about £18 per month. Lilly is insured per condition for life - max £7000. We have made a couple of small claims and the insurance permium went up by about 78p per month last year.
I agree that pet insurance is extremely high, but the situation isn't helped by excessive vet bills - I think vets are taking advantage when they know the pet has insurance, and I think they charge far too much. My sister in law had a dog who needed quite a major op - vet quoted her £2,500 and she said forget it, we haven't got insurance. Low and behold the vet managed to "do her a deal" and got the cost down to £800. Funny that, when he found she had no insurance.
Berry is £15 a month with Sainsburys and is covered for £7,500 per claim with a £75 excess although come renewal in August I'm going to take insurance with my vet as their's is the same price but includes fleaing and worming for the year plus 10% off treaments.
