Im getting my first Lab puppy in a week. He is currently on Eukanuba large breed puppy, but i would prefer to put him on something less expensive! He will be 12 weeks old. Anyone have any suggestions?
I found Skinners quite difficult to get a hold of locally, so moved Kira onto Iams. She seems to be doing well on it, nice shiney coat, regular firm poops, and no bouncing off the walls etc.
I get Lolas Skinners Field and Trial puppy online from Vets.co.uk (I think, something like that anyway) and if you buy 2 big bags delivery is free and it arrived the next day.
Change puppy over slowly though
I used Wainwrights large breed (pets at home) while Jess was little but then took her off @ 6 months onto adult skinners F&T duck and rice. Just make sure whatever you change your pup to you mix it in slowly.
Another Skinners convert here - and Tess looks splendid on it, and poos are regular and very pick-up-able!
My eventual aim is to switch over to raw as long as it suits her as well as Skinners does. We switched from her original food over to Skinners over a period of about 3 weeks.

I use Skinners but as advised in other posts don't change the food straight away, leave it for about two weeks to let your puppy settle in then take about a week to swap over. this way you should avoid an upset tummy Hope to see pics when puppy arrives
Thanks everyone! Logun was in a litter of 2 (2 stillborn) and so is a chunky monkey! Im going to my local feed merchants soon so will see what i can get hold of. What is peoples opinions of Dr Johns? I know thye sell that?
I fed Minnie on Naturediet puppy (and have been feeding Naturediet to my adult dogs for years). It's not the cheapest of foods, but I think it's a very good food as commercial pet foods go. I feed some Arden Grange salmon adult dog food too, which is a kibble, and I think for a kibble it's a good one. Never fed it as a puppy food though.
I wouldn't feed Dr Johns. If you look at the ingredients, take Dr John Gold Medal for example:
"Cereals, meat and animal derivatives (min. 14% chicken), yeasts, milk and milk derivatives, oils and fats, minerals. With antioxidants BHA and BHT."
Not something I would want to give a dog. Aside from the cereal/derivatives listed at the front, if you google BHA and BHT you will find various links about them being carcinogenic. So I avoid foods with these ingredients too.
I also wouldn't feed foods like Iams and Eukanuba because of the animal testing conducted by the parent company, but I know that isn't a concern for everyone.

Dr.Johns is very much the lower end of the range. We have fed it in the past to adult dogs but never used the puppy
We have fed Beta puppy for the last 15 years and have found it very good and a reasonable price
