Hi
I know there have already been a number of posts about Skinners but couldn't find just the answer I am looking for so apologies for any duplication.

Poppy is coming up to 1 and is still on Wainrights puppy (I now realise i should have changed her over earlier but hindsight is a wonderful thing!) I am going to put her onto adult food and mix it in with her current food to hopefully avoid any upsets.

I see that a lot of people on here recommend Skinners and a local feed shop sells it so want to try it out. Looking at their website I see that they have an F&T range and a 'For all dogs' range. Poppy is quite small, weights about 24kg and I think she looks about right - certainly doesn't need to put weight on. She is currently walked for about an hour a day but as she gets older she will go on longer walks at the weekend. I am also planning on starting agility once a week. She has got shed loads of energy so certainly don't want to increase energy levels. I understand that I should be looking for something reasonably low in protein - any comments on %? I should probably mention that at the moment we feed her what looks like a tiny amount of the wainrights twice a day so it would be nice to use a feed that allows her to have a bit more to eat!

If anyone who knows a whole lot more about feed than me can recommend a particular type of the Skinners, or indeed another brand that isn't too pricey, I would me hugely grateful. I see that there is a maintenance brand in the F&T section which is 18% protein and chicken - would this be a good one to try?

Thanks

I feed Skinner Field & Trial to all mine. Emily, Poppy, Maisie and Phoebe have maintenance and Martha the duck and rice. They all do extremely well on it. One thing I would say though, is use your own judgement on the amount you feed, if I fed the amount it suggests on the bags, mine woulod be like house-ends, despite the amount of exercise they get Rolling Eyes

Mole has duck and rice too, and is doing very well on it. I feed by eye, so alter the amounts according to how I think she is looking. At the moment she is on a mugful in the morning and the same in the afternoon. Very Happy

Another duck and rice fan here!

Rueben does really well on it, he has a lovely shiny coat and no smelly farts Embarassed which is always a bonus Wink Laughing Laughing

Plus, as it's a 'working dog' food there's no VAT! Very Happy

Eddie has the Crunchy one, and really looks good on it. He is 20mths old, 35kgs and, according to the vet, is a picture of absolute health. At approx £18 for 15kg (which lasts us about 4-5wks), it's a bargain too.

Ruby has been on the F&T Duck & Rice for about 3 weeks now, it's seems to be the only dry food that she likes, her coat looks really shiney and her poo's are nice and firm Laughing

So a big thumbs up from us Smile

Duck & rice here too. Alfie maintains his weight of 32kg on 320g per day, similar exercise to Poppy, so I guess that's 10g per kg.

That's great - thanks everyone. Will get down to the feed shop and try and get hold of a small bag to try her. Should I feed about half and half with her old food to start with?

That's what I did - Tess took to the change really well, I gradually increased it over a month but that's because I was running the old bag down; think I could have done it just as easily over a couple of weeks.
