As for the insurance, I was under the impression that you were covered for anything not related to vaccination/worming/fleaing, regardless of whether you treat them or not?

I thought just the same.

I have a question regarding this natural repellent: How does it work exactly?
I know the dog have to eat it with its meal to be effective, so the repellent is ingested and goes into the blood?

And then what?

Does it repel ticks and other not-so-charming-creatures after they have bitten the dog? Or does it prevent them to attack and hop on the dog?

I am asking this because if it kills after the bite, then it is not protecting against the diseases they can pass on.

I believe it makes their blood smell less tasty to the fleas.
