A quick note for Sarah.... just looking at the Sainsbury's policy for my pup, and the wording in the beginning of the policy booklet says that not having your dog vaccinated can jeopardise any claims you might make... I should imagine that'd be the case for most insurers though surely?

I would go for the best insurance that you can afford. You just never know what could be around the corner! (and I speak from experience Rolling Eyes ).
"Cover for life" is essential. We are with Petplan - Monty is covered for £4000 vet fees per year for life (with £75 excess per year per condition). Also included is £750 for complimentary therapies.

Thank goodness for pet insurance Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

This website is great for getting the lowdown on the companies that offer lifelong pet insurance

http://www.pet-insurance-discount.co.uk/lifelong-pet-insurance/

Also in regards to the vaccinations..the insurance companies wont pay out for treatment for any illness/disease that could have been prevented by vaccination but they do tend to pay out for other illnesses that vaccination wouldnt have avoided Smile

I didn't realise until recently that there was a difference between "per condition" and "lifetime" policies. I have a lifetime policy with Direct Line, they have been very good when I have claimed but £6K per condition for the life of a dog isn't a great deal of money if you are talking about tests, x-rays, operation and follow up treatment.

Argos seem to have a good lifelong policy where the maximum per year is something like £7k, it is cheaper than my current policy too. Anyone know what they are like to deal with if you have a claim?
