I'm sitting here debating with myself about whether or not to take Pickle's crate down.

Pickle is 7 months old now and so far has been such a good girl. I haven't used the crate during the daytime for several weeks. My house is open planned, so she is loose in the downstairs with the other two when I go out but all they do is sleep while I'm gone. Even when the Christmas dec's were up and I'd been out for 4 hours, nothing had been touched and you could tell they had all just been sleeping, as the sofa had 3 warm patches on when I got back Laughing .

Last night I never shut the crate door, so she could go in if she wanted but judging by the warm patches on the sofa, that's where she and Mojo had slept (Pood sleeps in my bedroom) and there had been no nonsense in the night.

I suppose I'm just mindful that she is still young and "could" decide yet to chew....but it would be sooo lovely to have a crate-free living room again.

So here am I, debating with myself.....Shall I or shan't I be brave enough to take the crate down? Hmmmm Confused

You could give it a go Jules, if Pickle does do something naughty it can always go back for a while Smile

You can only give it a try Jules. and see how she's goes.

I know just a matter of weeks ago i debated decrating Alfie..but he was stealing socks, underwear and i didn;t want to take the chance. I have never shut him the crate during the day when i'm out but the last 2 mornings i have left the kitchen gate open too...and i have come home to a very warm sofa..and nothings been touched. I'm hoping he continues like this as tbh the new house doesn;t have room for his crate and i want to buy him a new bed.

I've bitten the bullet....Eeek. I've taken it down but haven't stored it away yet, just in case. Wink

The girls are now rediscovering all the toys which had fallen behind it. Pood looks a bit miffed, as sitting on top to look out over my garden fence was her favourite pastime. No doubt she'll just sit on the back of the sofa now instead. Laughing

Keeping my fingers crossed, Pickle remains being a good girl now.

Take it down, she is the perfect pup, far too much the princess to be naughty. Plus by the time she has done her risk assessment before she does anything naughty you would be back! Hee hee.

Lexi has never been in a cage. Until she took the the decs off the tree yesterday she had never done anything wrong!

Trace xx

Awww I bet she was only helping you, as she didn't want you to have your decs up after the 12th Night. Wink Laughing

You're right about the Risk Assessments. Pickle wouldn't do anything dangerous and Mojo would Tell on her if she did anything naughty (Moj is such a Tell Tale Laughing ) and they both hate it if I so much as raise an eyebrow. That pair are such Goody Two Shoes dogs. Laughing

Fingers crossed! Luna was decrated at about 5 months although she's always slept upstairs, she's never seen night-time as chew-time! I think Pickle will just snuggle up with Mojo on the sofa!

I think it would be real bad luck if she did suddenly decide to destroy the house but I can't see it as she sounds really good and I would imagine you have also spent alot of time training her what she can and can't chew on so if she did make a mistake I'm sure it would only be a minor mishap.

My two have never been crated, I have a very grumpy neighbour and I didn't want to take the chance of him complaining to the HA about puppy noise whilst I was introducing the crate so I just let them sleep loose in the kitchen and went down the vicks vapor rub everything chewable route for when they were unsupervised and when I was there which is most of the time, I just taught them what they could and couldn't chew on. Amber is 9 months now and is still very good, we've got the odd tooth mark on the kitchen wall behind the bed but a smear of vapor rub and she has never touched it again. I think by this age generally you know if they are going to be real chewer or not.I'm sure Pickle will be fine!

I have a similar problem, Mole is now in the kitchen at night with the crate door open, and has been for a few weeks. I bought a zippy bed for her for Christmas, but that looks very lovely in the living room Rolling Eyes Laughing I know she'll be fine, but I can't just make myself take the crate down, will she miss it? Confused
