Hi All,

I have read a lot of the insurance posts on here, we have a lovely 14 week old Lab, and I have been looking at different cover for him.... Animal Friends Insurance was competitive but I already have two cats (they love the new pup... not...) so I have called Pet Plan... They have offered.

Life time cover, £4,000 per year per condition
£75 excess per year per condition

cost £21.00 per month...

Looking around I think I'm gonna but from them.... Unless any of you well informed folk can give me a heads up.....

Looking forward to your replies... and thanks.....

Regards

Dave

I paid Sainsbury's a lump sum of £178 for £7,500 per claim and the amount of claims are unlimited so that's about £15 a month Smile

Get a quote from Healthy-pets. I have my cats with them. I have my lulu (lab) with Pet Plan and it started the same price as you've been quoted but as Lu then had hip dysplasia and needed a replacement its pushed my monthly payments to £30 a month and god knows what it'll go up to in April!! im stuck with them now too as if i switch it'll be considered a pre-existing condition and wont be covered....

anyho hopefully your'll never need it anyways! Smile

We are with Pet Plan and have made quite a few claims over the last 3 years. They may be a bit more expensive than other companies but we have never had a problem - they have always paid out. They pay the vets direct which is great because Troy has 2 long term conditions and regularly needs to have blood tests, medication etc.

I think we pay about £23 per month now. Each time we renew our policy, we expect it to go up loads, but it has usually just been about 50p p/m.

We use Argos - they do three stages of cover - silver, gold and platinum. The platinum works out about £18 a month and covers £7000 per condition for life. Lilly has HD and so far they have paid up £500 toward hydro. I have also had a couple of minor things wrong that have cost about £400 each - Argos paid up within 2 weeks - no questions asked.

I think Petplan are probably the creme de la creme but I find Argos very good - the premiums have not gone up even though they know she has HD.

Good luck with finding the right one for you.

xx

My two are both with pet plan. Yes its a touch more expensive every month than some of the others but when i've had to claim they have been super quick to pay out and very helpful if i've needed to talk to them. I also like the fact that each year i get the full amount of cover back for that condition with only the excess to pay once a year.
Star's claims for her ears alone have paid out more that we have paid into the policy over the past nearly 3 years and we have had other claims too and the price has never shot up huge amounts at renewal.

We used petplan when we first had marley, they charged us something like £32 a month, never claimed then when it came to renew and add Oscar last Feb they wanted over £60 a month JUST for Marley and he was just over 1 Shocked i didnt even bother to ask about Oscar as soon as we heard this. We were shocked as i expected it to go up a few pounds but to double when we hadnt claimed was shocking.
I did some seraching and found M&S for the lifetime full cover (exactly the same as petplans top cover) for £30 a month for both Marley and Oscar, maybe have a quick look at them.

petplan - like some others do add on a huge excess when a dog reaches 9 or 10 years old and although a long way off for you, worth considering...

have a look at axa - who were marvellous when they underwrote M & S - but who i have good expriences with
