I know some people have an MMG tailgate on here. Ours was delivered this week. We've just tried to fit it BUT the metal rings on the brackets won't move - at all!

We'd stored the guard in the garage overnight so could it be the cold that has caused the metal to shrink?

Have emailed MMG to ask for help, just wondered if you guys could beat them to it?!

I have always had MMG guards and caging and I don't think I have ever had that problem. Perhaps it is something to do with the cold.

Why don't you ring them for an instant answer?

Have spoken to someone and they say the rings aren't supposed to be removable by hand and I should use a small screwdriver to remove.

Having tried - I'm at risk of damaging myself! I'll get the OH to try again when he gets home.

Ah I think we are talking about different rings! I thought you mean't the big locking rings.

Yes the small (sort of keyring like) rings are difficult and there is a technic to moving them. You use a short stumpy screwdriver and just sort of flick them if that makes sense. Its more of a knack than physical strength.

Luckily I could go along to MMG to get mine fitted and they showed me how to do it.

Laura - the best description I can give is that you sort of ease the rings off by applying some pressure with a screwdriver to get the round ring off the guard attachment. I'd offer to do a photo - but it's too cold & snowy here!

Thanks Jill. Will go find a shorter, stumpier screwdriver and see if that works. I'm wishing I'd gone for the fitting service now as OH disappears for a month tomorrow and I can't see us getting it fitted before he goes as it'll be dark when he gets home Rolling Eyes

Yes you sort of do it with the screwdriver through the ring and use the end of the bracket to flip them on - if that makes any sense. It gets easier as they stretch a bit.

Right, thanks all! What would I do without you all?!

Have just about got ring on again!

Gonna wait until it's all fitted in properly then warp all the rings so they are Laura friendly me thinks! I'm the one who mainly drives the car and I can foresee times that I'm going to be the only one around to remove the tailgate so it needs to be me friendly. I will now have a screwdriver permanently in my car!

Phew!
