Hi

I am interested in buying a book to teach me more about dog behaviour and body language.

I like books that are easy to read, so don't want something that is all theory and nothing else. I have looked on Amazon but there are so many it is difficult to pick out one more than any other.

Does anyone have an recommendations ?

Many thanks

Chloe

On Talking Terms with Dogs: Calming Signals by Turid Rugaas

A very good place to start your canine behaviour education...

'Canine Body Language - A photographic Guide' by Brenda Aloff. Mostly photos, as the title suggests.

I like Stanley Corens books and would recommend 'How to Speak Dog' for understanding postures and behaviours and general human-dog communication.

It is very much a reading book but believe me you'll quickly be engrossed drawing parallels to your own dogs behaviours.

At the back is a very useful visual glossary, with diagrams of some behaviours and also a doggish phrasebook with summary tables for barks, ear positions, eye signals, tail signals and so on.

On a completely different end of the spectrum in written style I'd also recommend 'bones would rain from the sky' which I'd describe as more 'fluffy' a read (but still credible in content)
