I have one for Charlie, having tried several headcollars before, all of which rode up into his eyes. The Gencon did not ride up, and is so much better that the others.
I have the all-in-one clip to collar version, where the other end of the lead part can be clipped to his regular collar. This is useful for Houdinis who inisist on trying to back out of headcollars - if they should manage it then you will still have hold of them.
I must admit that with the current icy footpaths I have been very grateful for mine, and have been making Charlie wear it. It has saved me from being pulled off my feet or towed skiing along the footpath more than once.
Hi
I would say get one I love mine. I had the canny but felt she was still too in front for me when walking the Gencon is excellent she is next to me.
Ella use to run a mile when the canny came out with all the metal on it it use to gangle it was a nightmare.
I have the gentle leader which has the lead attatched and is execllent.
Well worth the money
I know I'm a bit late but just wanted to add that I think they're brilliant as well!
Jazz is petite with a very narrow muzzle - we tried everything in the petstore and each time the assistant would put a head collar on and stand up to tell us how good it was......and Jazz would paw it off within seconds!
She has only removed the Gencon once and that was when she was lying down and it had gone very loose without me noticing. When the Gencom comes off it goes into a sliplead so she was still safe. We have the one which clips onto a collar or harness. She doesn't mind it being put on and straight away she walked nicely.
We did a lot of lead training with Jazz but if we stopped dead she never once looked back to ask why - if we turned in a different direction then she just thought "great, we'll go this way then" Tali has a Gencon but is happy to learn to walk to heel.
Great to read the good reviews of the Gencon. We used one to walk Max while he was still in the shelter but did not realise that it was different to the halti which we brought. The Halti has been riding up into Max's eyes and he keeps trying to scrape his head on the floor. I have now ordered a gencon and hope that is more successful.
The Gencon is much better than the Halti in my opinion having tried both on Max. I use the gen con in addition to his normal lead. He seems to have really got the hang of it and I find that I am able now to 9/10 time walk him on a normal lead successfully.
Definately get the one that clip to a collar. I tried one with Cass, and she managed to turn around, shake her head and back straight out of it.. and straight across the road to get to another dog with a car coming! So please use something as a back up.
____________ Rach and the two choccy monkeys Cassie and Poppy XX
got one for Solly when I broke my ankle last year and it worked a treat but he really hated it!! Like others have said I would often only have to have it in my pocket and pull it out when he pulled to get results
Unfortunately he developed a knack of getting it off in a flash or rubbed himself against me so hard he nearly had me over a few times that it became dangerous so we now have a walkeezee harness that he quite likes and is far more effective.
It has made a huge difference we have now started training with his granny Di and hope to do away with it altogether soon.
I use a gencon for Ruby sometimes, and a body harness and lots of lead work training!! My 5 year old can walk Ruby (closely supervised - usually when we walk to the park to watch my 7 year old in a football match) with the gen con on. Ruby hates it but it works brilliantly
