Hi all, I'm thinking of getting a Gencon as Odi pulls really bad on the lead, no matter what we've tried even on a harness.
I was thinking of trying a head harness and was reading about the Gencon which sounds brilliant but just wondered how everyone else gets on with them?

there are quite a few of us on here with Gencons...I'm sure I remember seeing some posts a while ago, so it might be worth popping Gencon into search

We got one just recently - and they work instantly!! really good for the beginning of GTs when the excitement is just too much for The Bug..

Having said all of that - he absolutely hates it. He is pretty good once it is on, but will hide under the dining table before a walk if he sees it in my hand - whereas will be beyond enthusiasm if I am holding his "normal" lead...

Tis true....nothing will truly beat proper heel walking....I just need that magic wand (and some long hard homework) to get that to work!

Well I have tried a gencon all in one when my wirehaired viszla was a young adolescent ( when he wanted to he could use his size and weight even though he knows better Rolling Eyes ) . Anyway I used it and you can tell that he knows that it is effective as he gives me the look that tells me no contest and he walks without a hint of anything other than obedience
( slack lead Wink ) . I only used it for a little while and now he walks fine no matter what situation but he is all grown up now Wink .

So personally I would give it a 9/10 I did still use his normal collar and lead this was only a backup to teach/remind him of what I wanted . Just a bit time consuming to put on that is the only draw back .

Remember that you will still need your collar and tag on Wink

I have put 6 LF members onto them, after a very kind LF member lent me hers one day on a GT! So now when I see people struggling I offer to loan them mine, and they have all been instantly converted Smile If you can find someone on a GT who has one so they can show you how to put them on and you can have a try-before-you-buy, it might help you make your mind up. I don't know where Nuneaton is but you're welcome to borrow one of mine on a GT (I attend enough of them all over the country LOL).

Ozzie doesn't need it all the time, only in super-special-really-exciting-situations (like GTs), so it's not used very often, but it works wonderfully when I need it to.

Nothing will ever be better than training your dog to walk correctly at heel, but for those moments where you haven't gotten there yet, they are a great training aid.

Have a look in the "leads" forum I am sure you will find the thread where we all rave about them - it's like 5 or 6 pages long I think?

I've used one for ages with my Spaniel, it's great! She is funny on the lead, she rears up and lunges forward, then gets to the end of the lead, springs back and sits down until I'm up with her again! Dopey dog.

Definitely saved my arms getting pulled out of their sockets on many an occasion.

FABULOUS WONDERFUL EXCELLENT AMAZING lol

We have two mad black dogs that both pull like trains egging each other on when the mood takes them. Gencons and voila they both walk like the 'so laid back its too much hassle to pull' yellow - lol

I am soo confident with them that if I was allowed I would walk them both now (at 8 months pregnant) seriously you wont look back xx

Do it! We got one for Jess.....she doesn't like wearing it necessarily but it's only coz she knows I'm in charge rather than her!!! We walk her with her Gencon all in one and her normal lead. We don't always use it but is fab for walking through town, shows, pub (!) and when she gets a little too escitied with my parent's dog. It's like a magic wand!
