We stupidly went with E an L as our breeder gave us a leaflet with 12 weeks free insurance.
You may or may not know that Bailey has since been diagnosed with HD.
In 10 weeks if that, we've paid out over £1200.00 in vet bills, pain relief, supplements and hydrotherapy. We have sent all our claim forms off.
I've been phoning up twice weekly to check on progress, so I know that they received our forms quickly. However, they had our claim for 6 WEEKS before they even looked at it. They accepted liability to pay us and said they had sent the check mid december. Yeh right. Perhaps they sent it via carrier pigeon.
It's annoying, as we don't delay paying them every month.
What's worse is that when we recently sent a claim form for an ear infection, they replied THE NEXT DAY to tell us that we couldn't claim for this as it was less than the £89.00 excess we pay per condition. I'm not annoyed that they won't pay but cheesed off to know that they do look at the claim forms as soon as they come in but don't act on them if they think they might have to pay.
They only looked at my claim for HD becaused I badgered them and in the end they got the manager to look at it.
Our hydrotherapist said that a client in the past waited 18 months for a pay out!
Ditto knowing about E and L, they are infamous. Often people who insure with them in the horse world are first time owners who are seduced by their special offers, and they do flood horse mags with their ads. I can't think that they keep them very long though.
Had a letter from my vets re Blue's insurance claim (NFU - they are fabby). In that they ask you to chase up the claim after three weeks, especially if it is with E and L and A.n.other 'who are often extremely slow to pay veterinary fee claims'
I used them for horse insurance when I got my first horse.
He was put to sleep with leg problems eventually and E & Hell dragged their heels with my claims.
I was one of the lucky ones as I stamped my feet and threatened them with the Financial Ombudsman and they acted quickly after my lettter.
I'd give that a go if all else fails.
My equine vets want payment up front if any clients are with that company now, whereas if we are with any of the other companies they are happy for the insurance to deal with payment direct.
