Direct Line just paid out on my £657 claim for a pyometra spay on Coco - no quibbling. They also paid quickly and easily for my last dog.
I have found them reasonably easy to deal with and quick to pay out (direct to the vet).
However, £6000 per condition is not a huge amount and they have some hidden maximum limits that they don't publicise (eg max £35 per night hospitalisation). I am considering looking elsewhere next time for this reason.
Be aware that any visits to the vet, even if you only voiced a concern, may lead to exclusions on future policies, so if you have had any problems during your free period you may have no option but to stick with that company.
I'm with PetPlan - A bit more expensive but they impose limits per year rather than per illness so if you had an ongoing illness...e.g. arthiritis, you wouldn't run out of cover.
Interesting that noone else is with them...is there something I don't know?

Yes - they are ludicrously expensive - I can insure THREE of my dogs for the price of one with PetPlan - their basic cover is nearly £5 a month more than the top cover with More Than and M&S.
I've got one with M&S and the rest with More Then - touch wood - M&S were brilliant when Hally was ill and settled the claim quickly directly to the clinic.
Direct line....Madison was insured through them and after she was PTS they paid the vet direct with no questions asked and it was a far amount as it was 6 mths worth of treatment for MCT(cancer). But tbh i never claimed them before her first op just 8 mths previous and never had any probs.
Alfs with them now and hopefully i'll not need complain abou them.
