A while back I bought Kira a red dingo collar for her to grow into as I just couldn't resist it. I didn't really think about it again for a while as she was just wearing her little puppy collar, which closed with a plastic clip similar to that of her red dingo collar. When Kira started puppy training, the trainer said that these kind of collars were unsafe as they can easily open and then the dog is free. Well Kira grew out of her puppy collar and as the red dingo one was still slightly big I bought her a leather collar that buckles as advised. Very boring I must add Sad

She is now big enough to fit her red dingo collar but I am now worried about using it incase she snaps it...she doesn't do much pulling, but she does have her moments occasionally Rolling Eyes

Can anyone with experience with these collars please let me know how strong they are as I do really like the collar and would like to use it Very Happy

I would be wary of buying a cheaper version of the clip, but have to say we havent had any problem at all with Marley's red dingo and despite his puppy classes, he is still pulling like mad on it!!!

Heather,

We have sold literally thousands of Red Dingo collars and can say hand on heart that we have only had a couple back due to the clip failing.
We put our money where our mouths are and I wont put my two girlies in anything other than Red Dingo.

I cannot deny that in cheaper collars the clips can fail but Red Dingo are quite happy to garuantee thiers from manufacturers defects.

All I can say is go for it with confidence - it wont let you down.

Lesley

I know it is pretty rare, but I did have one Red Dingo collar clip break. It was on the small sized collar though, so the clip was really tiny...mind you it only had a 5 kg poodle pull on it Confused. I think it was just a dud one, as I've not had a problem before.

I did bear this in mind when I bought Pickle her collar though and I went for a Trixie collar, which the clip goes through the metal loop, so hopefully if the clip does snap, the dog isn't free the instant it goes (well that's the theory anyway).

Thanks guys...I feel reassured that it is safe. I did try to yank it apart with quite a lot of strength and it seemed to survive that no problem. Very Happy

She is quite a laid back pup and doesn't do a huge amount of pulling, but when she does she is quite strong!

Now I need to go and get the lead to match it as our blue one just won't be matching the orange collar Rolling Eyes

Cross posted with Jules...I type like a 5 yr old Embarassed Will look into the trixie collars as well.

Well I bought the lead to match this morning. Thought I would road test the collar at the park today. Was looking very good and we had managed to get near the end of our walk and her collar was still nice and clean (a miracle given the mud!), when 2 dogs appeared from nowhere wanting to play. Well Kira was more than happy to oblige and threw herself all over the place. Her lovely orange collar now has many different shades of mud to complement it Rolling Eyes Very Happy

The collar did survive the pulling that it endured when we put an end to the playing with the other dogs, so feel happier using the collar. Very Happy

Heather; just to add that I was somewhat sceptical too, but I really liked the look of the red dingo collars and they were so highly recommended on here.

We have had the Red Dingo collar for several months now and I have to say I am really pleased with it. Rosie is a very strong girl, and I really wanted a collar I could grab hold of with a feeling of trust! The buckle has never ever come open and she looks really smart in it. It has got quite dirty but I've washed it and it's come up lovely. When I bought the collar I'd only recently bought her a red lead, but I've had to wash it over the weekend and it hasn't come up as well as her collar at all. So I'm going to be treating Rosie to another collar and a matching lead for Christmas and will be ordering from Lesley soon. Very Happy

all our three are in dingos and have been for over a year - Ruby has had them for all her life and omg she is a puller!!!!!! Just make sure you get the biggest size that fits as the large collar is a lot wider and chunkier than the med. Our three are all in mediums and two are pullers and we have never had breakages xxx
