Hit a slippery patch of road after exiting corner, fishtailed down centre of road towards oncoming traffic, steered left, managed not to spin but ended up travelling parallel to road half in ditch before getting car to stop.
Luna was still behind the driver seat despite the slope towards the passenger side and although she'd ended up tangled in the seatbelt a little she was non-the-worse for experiencing a rough ride. And half an hour later was curled up asleep safely in the back of a police car whilst we awaited my wonderful Dad.
Still waiting to hear if car has survived, just chuffed that Luna and I walked away and no one else was harmed.
I think the harness definitely prevented Luna being thrown around as much as she would have during the out of control bouncing we experienced and having her attached to the seatbelt whilst I opened the back door to get her out meant she couldn't get onto the busy dangerous road while I faffed with lead.
Rather a scary experience but wanted to share it so that you guys make sure you spend time and money making sure your pooches are secure if you have an accident. I suddenly became very aware of how lucky I was not having 25kg of Luna hitting the back of me and not having a scared pooch running around on the road.
The policeman loved the fact Luna had her own fluorescent jacket to wear whilst waiting at the side of the road! A shame my own was unreachable in the passenger door
Really glad you both escaped unhurt and are safe and well...must have been a very hairy experience. Always have Solly in his harness....he settles well with it ...it makes him feel secure.......love the jacket idea!
What a good think Luna was secured, good to hear your both unhurt, very nice of the policeman to let her sleep in the back of their car , hope your car is also unscathed or has only minor damage.
Great reminder re: securing dogs in cars - I have to admit to being a bit fanatical about it - labs are heavy dogs and could potentially cause themselves or you significant injury.
I'd never thought of a flourescent jacket for Zoods (though we have them) - where did you get Luna's?
