I got our final bill today after the innsurance paid out on Chesters illness.

We still owe nearly £800 to Bristol and £400 to our local vets.

I am so worried, we dont have this sort of money.

When i took out Chesters Policy i thought £6000 per condition was more than enough, i even went for the advanced policy.....i was thinking meore along the lines of HD ect.

Chesters treatment still has not finished, as ideally he will need another MRI scan in a couple of months, ( another £1200) but it looks like we will have to knock that on the head ( sorry no pun intended!) Which mean i know i will always worry that he has an underlying infection and if he does get ill again what will we do Sad

It looks like my hours are being cut at work so it christmas cancelled and really needs to pull in ourt belts. I have to ring bristol tomorrow and see if they will let me set up a payment plan and the same with local vets.....erm only problem is need full wages to do that grrr

I know i shouldnt be moaning, i am delighted that chester is well, but his total bill was nearly £8000, if he has the other MRI scan his bill will be nearly £10,000...scary stuff!

Anyway the reason for my post is to just remind people that no matter what level of insurance you have it still may not be enough.

Oh Den I'm so sorry. That's a huge weight on your shoulders Sad (((hugs)))

Forgive me, can't remember and clutching at straws here but is Chester from a Rescue? If he I just wondered if any help could be mustered up from that direction?

Chester is from Enfield Dog Rescue, they are only a small rescue so i know they wouldnt be able to help, also i would feel a bit uncomfortable asking.

Thanks for your concern Helen

Oh Den im really sorry to hear that. Sad
After all you two have been through and now this! Shocked
I don't have any suggestions apart from robbing a bank Wink

Im not sure what your line of work is but is there anyway you can get some part time work over christmas? Im sure there are lots of people wanting extra help over the holidays.

Im sure the vet will understand your situation and be able to help you out with a payment plan.

Of course you're pleased to have the lovely Chester back to normal but that sort of bill would blow anyone's mind!

No suggestions other than ebaying or maybe a boot sale...hope you can get a payment plan sorted and ease the shortfall enough to enjoy Christmas.

Tess sends puppy-licks to cheer you up. xx

Hi Den,

Really sorry to hear your situation, it's scary to see how high Vet's bills can go. Generally Vets are very good when it comes to situations like this, fingers crossed between you, you can work out a payment plan so Christmas isn't cancelled!!

Would you mind if we quoted your post in a blog post on our site to highlight the potential issues surrounding insurance policies, even if just a few people read it, it might help people realize how carefully you have to read into the policies available.

Thanks,
Greg

Oh Den - you must be worried sick to have this bill hanging around your neck. Especially after Chester (and you) have been through so much. It really is miracle that he's made such a marvellous recovery considering what he's been through.
I know when I took out Monty's insurance I thought £4000 per year would be ample - but I now realise that this is not a lot. And I can't upgrade it or change companies in view of his existing conditions. We really just don't know what's around the corner. These vets bills can mount up so much - especially when the condition calls for such specialist attention.
Would it be possible to approach somewhere like the Dogs Trust - maybe they would be able to help - at least with the cost of the scan Dexter will be needing again soon?
Hope you can get something sorted out with the vet and with Bristol. I feel sure they will have come across this type of situation before and should be understanding.
Chester is so lucky to have you to care for him.

Hugs
June and Monty

That's great thanks, will keep an eye on this post so will be able to update the blog post as you update the thread, hopefully with some good news on the payments side of things.
