I have found a whippet-type dog running in and out of traffic on a dual carriage way today Crying or Very sad

I stopped and got him, put him in the car and took him home. He was PETRIFIED. Shaking and whimpering and heart racing.

He has not taken any food but lots and lots of water.

He is very thin (but then this breed is), has a bleeding dew claw and several small scars on him. I think he is still a pup, or he has never been out Crying or Very sad as his pads are still pink and very soft and his claws are so so long they are scraping on the floor.

He is not neutered.

He has a greyhound 'racing' type collar on that is leather and has a dog chasing a rabbit on it. He has no ID tag.

I'm worried that he's a racing dog or from the travellers camp a few streets away.

He is not particularly friendly with Roo.

I am trying the RSPCA on the phone but they are constantly engaged.

What else can I do ...

Hannah

hi hannah

please call doglost on 0844 800 3220
they might be able to match up with a lost dog.

take the dog to a vets and have scanned for a microchip
if this is not possible your local dog warden will come and scan.

can you take a photo and send to admin@doglost.co.uk
or log on to www.doglost.co.uk and register then you can list him yourself
if you could make up some posters and put up locally to where you found then it's likely if someone is searching they will spot posters.

xx

You could try ringing your local council and reporting it to the Dog warden. They should be able to help or at least come and scan for a chip. Good Luck

Ring the local council and ask for the dog warden service. This would be the best way to get the dog back with its owners.

I have called the dog warden and he was in the area so collected him within 15 minutes.

He had no microchip Sad

The dog warden tried to look at his bad dew claw and the dog yelped so loud - it must be so sore Crying or Very sad It looks like it's half torn out.

I have emailed DogLost with some pictures and the details and am in the process of making some posters.

Will keep you updated.

Well done you!

He looks like a nice little chap and I hope your efforts manage to get him back to loving owners.

I hope someone collects him soon.

He looks pretty well cared for, apart from the fact his nails need trimming but then a lot of folk don't like cutting their own dogs nails, plus Lurchers nails grow so fast and they never seem to wear them out. He looks like a Whippet Lurcher and they have such fine skin, they are very prone to nicks and tears, even when just playing, so I wouldn't think too much of a few little scars. He certainly doesn't look overly thin to me, in fact for a Whippet type, he looks pretty well covered/muscled.

Knowing what this sort of dog is like, it wouldn't surprise me if he has hopped over the back fence, looking for a bit of an adventure (probably after a "Lady"), torn his dew claw in the process and got himself in a bit of a tizz. I bet there is someone out there now, looking for him.

I hope his owner gets pointed in the direction of the local Microchipper, as if he is anything like my big ol' Lurcher, it won't be the last time he takes himself for a wander.

He's lovely, hope he has a great owner who will go and claim him shortly. If he's not claimed, do you know what happens after he's done his 7 days?

Well done for helping him flower
