Mastercraft was by Janice Pritchard’s Charway Ballywillwill out of my old friend Morningtown Stormette (litter sister to my Beth’s dam Morningtown Stormchoc of Rosetyne. Look back a couple of generations from these two and you get to such great dogs as the Ballyduff dogs, Seaman and Marketeer. Sandylands Tan, Truth, Shadow and Mark are all there! The early Follytower, F. Silsdale old Chelsea
Wow, my two have these dogs lots of times in their pedigree!! Its amazing how related all these labs are!

Amazing and worrying madlabs2. So many Labradors and such a small gene pool! When looking for a stud dog it is almost impossible to find an unrelated stud dog! I know I'm the voice of gloom and doom but I can't help thinking we are heading full speed into disaster!
My two have the same sire but different dams and looking at the 5 gen peds the mums are completely unrelated - that is until you go back to 10 gens as I have been doing and you find that the same dogs were constantly used
It's very worrying Di. It's the same story in so many breeds. I think I'm right in saying there are only 5 lines in Flatcoats clear of Shargleam Blackcap! Nothing wrong with Brett and his breeder, the late Pat Chapman, did all in her power to avoid him being over used following his going Best in Show at Crufts in 1980. But the damage has been done.
I pray we dont get a Labrador win Crufts of I fear we are doomed!
It's so easy when looking at a working pedigree to think the dog is a complete outcross with no related dogs. Unfortunately this is rarely so. I know a few lines without Pocklea Remus but only a few. Then of course there is Holdgate Willie and Palgrave Edward always around there somewhere, just a little further back. One of the reasons I like Alan Thornton's Willowych dogs. Alan often seems to be able to bring rarely used dogs in.
Trouble with the Retriever Championship is that it is almost always won by a Labrador. So much so that there have only been 3 non Labs since 1950 and none at all since the Holway Golden in 1982! So every year we get a "Flavour of the month!"
So many lines these days are inclined to "Sensitive" and many loosing the "Real Labrador" head. I like a fine feminine head but very snipey heads are certainly not correct.
