I got my renewal from Petplan this morning. My Covered for Life policy has gone up another £50 per year - now paying £37.48 per month - my excess has gone up from £90 to £100. Do you think I'm paying too much? I've never had a claim - Stanley is only 2 years and a bit - I guess my London postcode doesn't help the situation... I don't mind paying this much per month if it's a 'good' policy, but it seems high compared to others I have seen.

I too am with Pet Plan and pay £31.00 per month for Meg she is 12yrs old and has cost them thousands over the years, with major surgery to both back legs twice, once to put metal plates in and second to remove them as she was allergic to them Crying or Very sad She has had allergy tests and de- sensitising injections, and also numerous lumps removed. She is now on pain killers and they have never once quibbled about paying for anything so although they are probably not the cheapest I,m happy with them.

Monty's came in from Petplan recently. He's on the covered for life budget plan, and we've had lots of claims.
The premium has gone up, but not a lot - it's now £24.13 per month. But the excess has gone up to £75 (it was £65) per condition, per year. And they've also changed the terms for complementary treatment (e.g only 10 sessions of hydrotherapy per condition - which is a real biggie to me as Monty has had regular hydrotherapy for his HD), and there's also been an excess slapped on to complementary treatment.
Thing is - I can't shop around for a better policy as he has too many "pr-existing conditions now" - so we've got to stay with Petplan.

Thanks for your comments. I wonder why my excess is so high?

If you've never had a claim I would definitely shop around.
We're with M&S and have claimed not far off £15,000 for Charlie Shocked Shocked Shocked and pay £275 per year. It's £7000 per year per life. Thank goodness it's not per condition or we'd have used it up ages ago

I just got a quote from M&S for Premier Cover £305.88 with a £70 excess.

Vet fees £7,000
Cover per condition No limit

Do these conditions sound ok? Does no limit per condition, mean if Stanley has a condition that ends up lasting his whole life, they will pay for that condition all the way through until the end?

it really depends on the exact wording of the policy tbh

per condition normally means that, so once you hit the condition limit (as we did with Bracken - we had £4000 per condition, it got used up straight away on her one and only claim (she died from it) I did ask if should she survive would she be covered for the same condition again next policy year and was told no

<policy wasnt with m&S btw just to clarify that>

If you have the exact wording i can have a look through it and let you know Smile

Glenys xx

They do, but its per condition - NOT per condition per year or for life

so one you blow it for that condition thats it, no longer covered

thanks for your comments - I'm probably going to go for M&S. I'm happy that it's for life cover and I'm paying a lot less for a better policy than PetPlan - I was on a discount policy with PetPlan.
Hmmm, this insurance business makes my head go funny!
