Posted: Fri Jul 17, 2009 9:33 am Post subject: On a happier note - Wylye starts school today!
In stark contrast to dearest Barney at the moment, my happy go lucky, super confident pup Wylye is coming on a treat.
Up until now we've just been doing the basics ie. the dreaded heelwork, sits and stays, learning the hunt whistle (oh the joy of finding yet another yellow ball in the bushes!) and a few little retrieves etc. We have no steadiness yet but bags of enthusiasm!
So now he's coming up to ten months old, I have decided he's ready to go to class proper and mingle with others. So instead of the odd lesson/pointer from my Trainer as a 1 to 1, starting from today we're off to his weekly Friday group puppy class.
Can't wait to see what impression we'll leave on everyone
Been and come back. Ha ha ha well that's cheered me up no end!
I think it's safe to say that on land and water Wylye's the keenest retriever there!
Did some fantastic lunges at other dogs carrying dummies. Had a complete attack of 'ants in his pant's and the concentration span of a gnat.
Loved, absolutely loved his impression of a kangaroo through the long grass. Clearly it was not enough to just run straight through, but bounce at high speed. Am slightly damp from an hugely enthusisatic delivery, which saw me keel over backwards onto a soggy molehill. Giggled at his desperate attempt to focus on me but keep is eye on the dummy behind him and the very slow, suspect rotation of bum when we did a sit, stay from a distance with a retrieve behind the dog, "OK, OK, I AM looking at you but oh the dummy's behind me Mum. What do I do. Oh the dilema!"
We were the worst behaved in the group but oh did he have speed, style and drive by the bucketfull and my goodness did it make me smile
Sounds like a great session, you and he are there to learn and I`m sure he will, the excitement of there being other dogs there too probably got to him a bit but he had fun by the sound of it and thats what counts
He is so happy Jac. He's such a joy to have around. The basics outside of Company are not bad, in Company, as I found out today and entirely understandably it being his first ever group session, not so good . But i worry not about it as it will come, I'm sure.
BTW Di, Nick was telling me you wrote a v interesting article in the Shooting Times very recently that he enjoyed Must get mysef a copy!
That sounds so positive. I shall now pretend to Al that the computer is broken for the forseeable future so he doesn't start making comparisons again, the over competitive bunny
Di
PS - ST Article - You know me, never leave me alone with a spare minute and a keyboard I get everywhere But its nice to know even though my thoughts aren't always traditional, traditional types can bear them too!
