Schoeffel jackets are very good, my wife has one that she was wearing yesterday in the thunder storms and yet you can layer up underneath for a January shoot day.
I certainly could do back flips (if I could do one ) in the harkila windstopper fleece, has adjustable cuffs, plenty pockets and smart enough to wear picking up, I only wear a shirt under maybe with a thin polo neck under that and have always found it warm, but not too warm.
I would buy more of them thats for sure, almost bought seeland thornhill but like Ian had mixed reports about them, so went down Harkila route, and have 2 sets of laksen tweeds for the posh days or the -22 snow days
From personal experience, I think Harkila produce excellent clothing. I can recommend the current John Norris offer on the Harkila Wisla jacket and trousers - both superb and lightweight, water- and wind-proof (Goretex), not too warm, relatively thin - although you'd need to buy a separate hood (around £15). The website currently has a significant discount on full price - and although worth comparing, I have found their offers better than those at game fairs in the past (and they will take stuff back if not the right size...) Re. Wisla specifically, though - unusually from my experience of the brand the trousers come up small waist-wise: mine are rather tight round the middle , and the waist fastening has a tendency to "pop" when bending too far - although perhaps this is a built-in incentive to encourage good presentation of a bird/dummy ?!)
Harkila's windproof jacket is also good (bought mine from a Bushwear special offer on-line,not sure of its name) - but you will get wet in a torrential downpour; although v expensive, their Kodiak trousers are also brilliant and much tougher than the Wisla, although being quite thinly lined. They are totally waterproof (I have worn them in horrendous conditions stalking in Scotland in Winter), and the leather knees are good protection against gorse & heather (although not, as I unfortunately found out, barbed wire They also fit over boots if you'd want them to.
It's the harkila caper fleece jacket that I have, John norris had them from £140 down to £70 but only smalls left or I would have bought nother to keep as a spare
Well I decided to ignore the picking up side of things. I will just use(and ruin) my old stuff for that.
I splashed out on Seeland Thornhill in the end. Decided it would be kept for Field Trials Training Days and Trials when there is a fair amount of standing around getting cold and wet (and I will just wear a t shirt underneath in case I get too warm).
I liked the fact that the jacket is nice and big so I can move around freely but has a drawstring so I at least have a waist . The trousers are a fantastic fit with plenty of room for movement just too long, so I am about to do some alterations to them.
Trouble is, these companies tend to only cater for Mr and Mrs average. I'm 6'2 and quite slim, and invariable find that jackets which are not far too big are so short that I get a wet behind when wearing studon leggings. About the only one's I've found long enough are the long series ones like the Barbour Northumberland.
