Hmmmmmm
Well, I'm still in the "yes and no" camp.
They're great for exciting, new, over-the-top situations, which is where Ozzie gets excited and pulls. So on a GT where he'd only have to be on-lead a little at the start and a little at the end (e.g. carparks etc) then I love them.
But I used his Gencon on a Proper Walk last week, it was 5 1/2 miles, and all on public footpaths - there were some fields and sections where he had to be on-lead due to roads and livestock... and at these times, I found it a complete pain in the butt!
I found it takes ages to get it all put on properly, it's not the simple 1 second clipping a lead onto a collar job. And when I put the lead on Ozzie first, then asked him to sit while I recalled Vegas and put a lead on him, but the time I turned around Ozzie had worked the nose-piece off
So for walks where he will either wear it just at the start and end, and offlead the rest of the time, or on-lead the whole entire walk (e.g. at a market etc) then yes, I love it.
But anytime I have to switch between onlead and offlead throughout the walk, I am going to go back to his regular flat collar and lead (or maybe Canny Collar and lead) - as I feel these are easier for on/off/on/off/on/off walks.
These days I know that nothing really stops Charlie from pulling if he is excited. I do find though that a headcollar makes it more manageable, and the gencon is the only one so far that doesn't ride up into his eyes.
They can be a bit fiddly to put on, but I have got used to it now.
OMG - just borrowed a Gencon of my trainer for my 6 month old Jess! What an amazing gadget!!! She walks like a dream on it with not too much objection either. Didn't want to resort to "gadgets" but sometimes you just have to try something to make you change your mind! Jess is a typical lab - nose to the ground and has the "eventhough I'm small, I can still try and pull my mum over in the mud!!!" attitude. Perhaps I should rent her out as a sniffer dog!! I'm hoping the callous on my left hand will now soften and my left arm become slightly shorter again!!!
It also seems to calm her down. Meeting people/dog etc is now a more pleasureable experience as she had a habit of lunging to say hello . Don't get me wrong......I have, and still am, working on this with her...
I use mine when waiting outside the school gates every afternoon. It ensures that if any of the children do get Charlie a little over excited I can still keep a lid on him.
