Sometimes when I give Cadbury a hand signal he puts his mouth on my hand as he follows it. Mainly on new things that he is learning and where he is still having to follow the hand command closely.
I don't want him to do it, but I don't know how to overcome it. If he does it and I say 'no' then he sits and is reluctant to try the command again - I don't think he gets that the 'no' means just the mouthing.
He doesn't hurt, but sometimes if he moves too quick he scratches my hand and he shouldn't be doing it.
I've been teaching him 'touch' where he gently touches my hand with his nose and this seems to help to a degree as then I can ask him to touch my hand and follow it when I am working on a new move.
I wonder if the mouthing is a leftover from when I always used to have treats in my hand and he used to mouth at my hand for the treat? I no longer use lures, other than when first showing him the trick, then my hands are always empty.
Can you give me some idea as to what I am doing wrong?
