Hi,
When Harvey comes to his new home on Wednesday ( i am so excited) he will be on beta puppy, i will eventually be changing him over to skinners, just a few questions if i may...
Is skinners a better quality food than beta?
Is a working dog food suitable for pet dogs (Harvey will not be a working dog)?
hey
Both mine are fed on skinners and finn has been on it since he was a pup. I can't fault it. Good price good quality.
I've never fed beta but i think it does have alot of filler in it so you end up feeding more which means more comes out the other end!
The field and trial label on the skinners just means no vat on it if you feed the maintenance adult or something like the duck and rice, this is fine for a non working dog. Some of the other varieties are geared slightly more towards the demands of a working dog. Hope that answers some of your questions

yup skinners is way better than beta, no nasty carcenogenic presevatives in skinners.
working dog food is fine... jus feed less than stated on the bag. usually you get a feel for how much food ur pup will need. remember to keeo him on 4 meals untill 12 weeks old then cut him down to 3 meals untill 6 months old, then to 2 after that.
regards protein levels its complicated, but basically pups are higher than an adult as pups are growing all the time, but then you dont want it too high as it will interfere with other nutrients... its about gettin the balance right. nutrients should be in the correct ratios to each other for best results. skinners puppy food will be fine, will have a good level of protein in it for pup development, when you move onto an adult food the protein will be lower in that anyway.
meat meal (or my understanding of it) is the meat part of the bird (this could be anything that constitutes flesh including bits we dont eat) but doesnt include the bones and feathers.
my two get fed skinners field and trial their nearly 2 years old now. both have heathly coats and teeth, both a good weight. they get 100g of food per meal (or there abouts) so aprrox 200g a day.
I feed Skinners F&T too - usually the adult maintenance - and Stanley enjoys it and does well on it. The price is very, very good - I can get 3 x 15kg sacks for the same price I was paying for one sack of my previous food - and I have no worries about the quality of the ingredients.
Ruby was on Chudleys (I think) when we first got her from the breeder. She wasn't eating all that well, and seemed quite disinterested in her food, so at the suggestion of the chap in our local feed supplies shop we moved her on to Skinners and she's really thrived on it. In fact, OH has just gone out to get her another bag - probably the last bag of the puppy version we'll need as she's just turned six months old and they last for ages!
Mole has always been on skinners, puppy to start with and now duck and rice, which I switched her to at 5 months. Poo nice and firm and food nice and cheap. A 15kg bag has lasted me 2 months
She's also looking good on it, nice and shiny
