Una is now a fully fledged Guide Dog .
I've just had the phonecall from her old trainer to say she was assessed for the last time today and passed with flying colours.
Her new Mum is absolutely delighted with her and burst into tears when Una was officially handed over to her. Of course then her Trainer and Boarder were in floods too, as am I now....So tissues all round, eh .
Her new mum sounds like a lovely lady and she has asked if she can keep in touch with me, so hopefully I'll hear lots more about Una's antics as time goes on. I'm so happy for my little girl and it sounds as if she has found herself a lovely Mum, who really understands her.
So that's it.....All over.....After what seems like an eternity and a rollercoaster ride.
I wish Una and her new Mum all the Love and Luck in the World and may they have the best partnership for many years to come XXXXXX.
for you Jules, you have every right to be SO SO SO proud of Una and the loving care you took of her, you will always be her no 1 mummy It is lovely that you can keep in touch and know how she is
Oh that is great news Jules - and testiment to all the hard work and effort you put into her. Well done Una and good luck. Looking forward to hearing all the updates
how long does it take for a dog to become a guide dog?
Well Una is 2 yrs old on 16th Aug. I had her from 6 weeks until 14 months old and then she went into "Big School" Training. She got a bit held up for a while because she had a late season and then she had several health concerns once she arrived in training, so she did well to qualify so soon. Oyster was a little bit younger when she qualified and it is usual for them to be between 18-24 months old.
