A few weeks ago now I rang up MTR to enquire about adopting a lab on their website, but was told that I couldn't because Sky wasn't spayed yet. Why would this matter when the dog I was going to adopt was neutered anyway? I have absolutely no plans to breed from any dog I might own now or in the future. Could anyone explain this please. I totally understand that the rescue's are only thinking of their dogs welfare.
Ok I should have asked when I phoned up the centre, but I was so excited about the possibility of owning this lovely boy that I was quite taken aback when they said no. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I should have asked questions, but didn't. Just thought someone might know on here.

I did know this was one of their policies but I have no idea why they enforced this rather strange rule, especially as it doesn't seem to apply if you wish to Foster for them . No doubt they have their reasons.
I know that even when castrated a dog can still be aroused by a bitch in season and if the dog you want to adopt is an ex stud he`d probably be even more likely as he knows what its like.
Can`t think of any other reason why they won`t allow a dog to be with an unspayed bitch.

They won't let you take on a bitch if you have an unspayed bitch either, or a dog if you have an entire dog, so I'm not sure what the reasons are behind this policy.
I have seen and been sorely tempted by fair few lovely dogs on their site since Una has gone but I know I'd get refused because Pood is still entire and I wouldn't have her spay before her first season just to satisfy their policies.
Sounds odd to me - i'd ring em back up and just ask them - what u got to lose?
The dog in question went the same day. I was gutted.
Skylar has just finished her season and will be spayed in three months time. I am with Jules in that I would not get her spayed before her first season - no way.
I am now having a puppy in a few weeks time from the same breeder I got Sky from. This will, in fact, be Sky's cousin, and is a bitch too.
I do intend to adopt from a rescue in the future, and will not be swayed by this daft rule. I may phone back and enquire about this rule. I am just baffled.
I applied to Many Tears to foster last year & was told I couldn't unless I had my Yorkie castrated. All my other dogs were neutered-Fluff hadn't been done as I simply hadn't got round to it.
I had a long chat with a lady there & she explained to me that Many Tears won't allow adoption or fostering in any household where there is an unneutered animal as it goes against their beliefs. She said they do adhere to this policy very strictly unless there is a medical reason why neutering hasn't taken place.
I had Fluff castrated so I could foster for them & then was inundated with fostering requests from other rescues so haven't been in touch with Many Tears since!
