Unless you provided payment details at the time of activating the insurance (I never do) - then they can't continue it by default. They generally write to you and then call you once or twice to try and get you to continue.
I'm with More Than, very reasonably priced cover, although, touch wood, never claimed from them - but I think a few other members have.
I have too many dogs to insure, so I put a some away each month in to a savings account to cover future bills.
We weighed up doing this - my insurance premiums for 6 comes to around £75 a month - but TBH - a single claim could take me well past what we could save in a year, we could potentially have to put 10 times that into a savings account to meet any substantial claim - so we opted for staying with insurance, plus, god forbid you ever need it, you then also have the third party liability.
I was given a free insurance form when we picked Gillie up and to register for it you do have to give your bank details. Because of this I didn't take it out and insured him with More Than. I'd put it in writing that you don't want to continue past the six weeks and send it recorded delivery.

Ah - but you don't - if you activate the insurance online, just press cancel when you get to the bank account details section and it activates anyway
It is worth activating the 6 weeks free insurance, because cover with companies such as More Than often has numerous exclusions for the first 14 days, whereas KC cover is instant.
I wonder how many other people have been caught out by the bank details screen? I always advise my puppy buyers just to cancel the screen
I haven't taken the 'free' insurance out this time as last time i was mighty annoyed with the kennel club.
As said above, when you do it through the KC website it asks for you bank details, should you wish to continue.
You are sent the 6 week policy that mention nowhere about cancellation or it rolling over onto the proper policy.
Just to be safe I called to cancel and was told that it would have automatically rolled onto a new policy, what's more my telephone call was not enough they wanted it in writing. I told them it was a disgrace and misleading.
This was last year so it may have changed.
If they have your bank details call and email them to save yourself further hassle.

Yes it does - BUT as per my post above, cancel the bank account screen, and the policy activates anyway - maybe this needs a sticky for all new owners - because people are clearly being caught out.
