Hi there,
I wonder if anyone can help me with this one please. I have two young Labs, and at the weekend we went for a country walk, which as you can imagine they thoroughly enjoyed Smile We walked about 5 miles and they dipped in a couple of ditches with water and went into a small stream. Then yesterday we noticed that both of them had drooping tails! Seems very odd (and looks odd too!) like they are unable to lift them. Other than that they are fine. We've had Labs for years but not come across this one before. Any advice appreciated Very Happy

It sounds like cold tail, unusual for it to have affected both your dogs but it does happen, it usually happens after they`ve swum in cold water, hence the name but it doesn`t just have to be that, it can come on at anytime.

They`ll probably find it painful to sit as well as wag but in 2/3 days they both should be fine again Smile

Very very common. As Mary says, give it 2 days or so and both will be fine.

Frankie had that in January, after a swim in the sea followed by a bit of a bump when out on a run. I found the forum really reassuring and avoided the need for a vet visit Very Happy - A couple of doses of junior ibuproven helped.
It only lasted a couple of days and he soon got his mojo back Laughing . Apparently, once an episode, then the dogs are more prone?

Hope yours get better soon!
Patricia

I have never heard of this - something I will remember though if it happens to mine. I would have been worried too - good to know it eights itself in a couple of days though.

Bailey had it a couple of years ago and I was really worried as I thought he had broke his tail and had never heard of cold tail before but he was fine after a day or 2.

Jed had it - had not been swimming (for once!) but it looked horrible on a dog who normally thumps everthing with his tail. It took a couple of weeks to get back to normal fully and he was extremely disgusted that it meant missing flyball practise as I did not want him jumping and turning and using it as balance to cause more damage.

Barney has also had this, and it made him very miserable. Thanks to LF we were saved a visit to the vet's, but I wish I had known I could give him junior ibuproven. Patricia, what dose do you give Frankie please?

Thanks everyone for your messages. I'm pleased to report that both tails are very nearly back to normal Razz Strange that it happened to them both at the same time though Confused
