I've been reading up about the various tools that people use to groom their labs, and it seems that a furminator and/or a zoom groom would be good. I can imagine that getting the puppy used to being brushed/groomed early on would be important (still 5 weeks to go!) but I don't know as much as I should about the top coat and undercoat.
Please can somebody tell me when I would need to use the furminator on a yellow lab puppy? Is it monthly? From 8 weeks or much later?
I don't have a furminator myself, though I have been tempted to get one.
For Charlie I have a wide toothed wire comb, a wide toothed wire brush and a zoom groom. I try to do him about once a week, but more when he is moulting madly.
Get the puppy used to grooming from as early an age as possible. I would suggest that the zoom groom would be gentler to start with though, and would use it for a few weeks, but that is just me.
i groomed Madison once a week with a soft brush, it did nothing for her coat just got her used to grooming, then i moved onto a slicker brush, groomed her every day during moulting.
Agree FURminators are great but wait until she is alot bigger and is going though a major moult. While she is a baby and still has puppy fluff then I would just use things like a soft brush and a comb to get her used to grooming.
