Well, you are all braver than me. I am too squeamish over eyes, and reckon I don't want to risk my sight. My astigmatism is still getting worse although my short sight is now getting better. So I am always likely to need my prescription changing every couple of years.
My sister-in-law had one eye done years ago, and was really pleased with the result at the time. I haven't spoken to her about it recently.
Except then I spent the rest of the evening reading about how long it can take for the eyes to settle down, and how many people need glasses again after just a couple of years and that I'll probably need reading glasses too! Are these odd cases or should I worry??
Well done for booking your consultation! I didn't have any problems with them settling down, you just have to make sure you keep using the drops afterwards to prevent them from getting dry, that's very important. I was told I may need reading glasses when I get older, so I think it depends on how old you are when you get it done.
Also someone mentioned looking at Optical Express and not wanting a sales pitch, that was where I had mine done and didn't feel at all that I was getting a sales pitch. You also get to see the doctor who will perform the proceedure as he checks your eyes and answers any questions, there is no pressure whatsoever.
I booked my consult too, but now i'm already having a few niggly doubts
My appointments not for a few weeks (they were v full - a good sign?!).
I was asked a few Q's which i think might be possible fail points though - my mum has glaucoma, i have dry eyes with contact lenses and i had shingles. The cost was also a little tough.
Preparing for the fact they might say no or i might chicken out i've decided to try look a little more into 'moist' daily lenses, i just wear focus dailies now and can only manage around 4hours max before they stick to my eyeballs
My daughter had her consultation last Saturday at Optical Express in Crawley. She is having the procedure done on Saturday 18th Feb at their Lakeside branch, she is having the Advanced CustomVue Wavefront, I will let you know how it goes
Gary where did you have yours done was it in Notts?
Just noticed this question was posted a few days ago.
At the time i had mine done, all the testing was done in Nottingham and i had the operation done in Milton Keynes. It was done by a company that became Optical express, i can't think what they were called at the time.
I know i had a choice of venues, a friend chose Birmingham, think there was a few places to choose from.
They also used to give you a vallium tablet before surgery, i don't think that is allowed now.
It doesn't seem that long ago to me, but time flys, i remember getting the horse and cart home, then we went to see George Formby live at the theatre royal. then 8 pints and fish and chips, all for less than a shilling.
Try telling the kids of today that, and they wouldn't believe you.
Gary and Toby.
Sarah, I find the focus dailies too dry also. I switched over to acuvue trueye about a year ago and they are really great. I often almost forget to take them out at night! The downside is that they cost me £40 per month (I wear them every day).
My consultation is with optimax with a view to going for their top end ultralase lasik wavefront treatment which they are doing for half price until the end of march. This makes the cost about £2000 which I can pay interest free, monthly, over 2 years so about £100 per month. A bonus for me is that I can go to Ipswich for it as I am a bit wussy about going to London, not sure why!
Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes, and good luck with your appointment, it can't hurt to go along and see what they say!
Vanessa, thanks for the lens info, I was all motivated to give a few new brands i'd researched a try but then vision express wanted another £50 to do a oens consult and as i said earlier i just hate having my eyes looked at.
Decided to wait until my laser consult as the place i pick advise on eyes generally so if i don't /can't go ahead i'm sure they'll advise me on lenses without needing another eye check (as they'll have done one anyway)
So, have you already had your consult? I'm guessing so if you have a price. Was there much proddling was it Ok?
We couldn't get consult appointments together so DH has his first, a week today
Sarah, no I haven't had it yet, it's next week. I'll let you know the full extent of the poking and prodding!
The prices are from the website and the £2000 is the cost of their most expensive treatment currently as half price (usually £4000). If this is not the best treatment for me then the other treatments should not be more than the £2000 mark even at full price.
That is nice that OH has agreed to go first. Ian is going to wait and see how I get on before even considering a consultation!
