anyone had laser eye surgery done as i have just booked myself a consultation with optimax always was a bit of a wuss with the thought of someone sticking a laser in my eye but plucked up the courage to book it
Have often thought about it as I can't wear contacts (tried but apparently my tears are not thick enough to float the lens) but now aged nearly 61 I'd still need glasses for reading so there doesn't seem much point
I know from previous eye treatment that you don't feel a thing when they anaesthetise the eye. It's all done with drops and you're so blurred you can't see what's happening right at the from of your eye either - and in my case they covered the other one up so I couldn't see anything out of that either. So don't worry about it from that point of view (pardon the pun!)
It's a much more straightforward op these days and I know it makes a huge difference to those that have had it done - like my uncle that had worn bottle-glass specs all his days and had perfect vision after the op.
Interested to see what others say as my daughter is also wondering if she should go for it.
I've had lasek done twice First time they under corrected me and I was back in glasses after 4 months, then the company went bust Optimax took over and agreed to re laser me but it was a year before I got it done again.
That was 2 years ago and I'm now back in glasses for driving (-0.50 and -0.75) which isn't a big deal but because of my age I also have diffs reading .
After all that, would I have had it done ??? Yes it is worth it but I wish I had it done when I was younger
Lasek is more painful post op but a lot safer as the eye is not cut so there is no flap as there is with Lasik. If you do contact sports its not recommended to have Lasik as the flap can be dislodged
Optimax were brilliant and I would recommend them, so good luck
talking to them on the phone earlier and they said it would be £895 per eye ----- i think mine are about -4 in each eye ........... what has prompted me is the offer they are doing of pay nothing until 2010 then 2 years interest free which helps to ease the pain
I had it done at the eye hospital in East Grinstead years ago. Very, very professional, very good surgeon. Made a fantastic difference to my life. Yes it was expensive (about £ 3,000) but at the time it was relatively new procedure and wasn't available in the high street. It was painless, not uncomfortable, and totally changed my life for the better. I will need reading glasses when I get older, but I have just had an eye test and I still have excellent vision.
Would I recommend anyone to have it done? You bet I would! But I would say "you pays your money, you takes your choice" and , personally, I would only go to Top Surgeon at top hospital - after all,you only have one pair of eyes
I had LASIK done in September last year. It was £3000 for both eyes but them my eyesight was reasonably bad (-6 and -6.5).
Now 7 months on my eyes are not quite perfect - I mean I can see without glasses but I've been left with a slight ghosting / shaddow to the right of things. I notice it most at trafic lights cause at a certain distance I can see two green lights.
But - if my eyes are properly lubricated my sight is better (I'm just too lazy to put the eye drops in).
If I had known the result I would get before the surgery would I have gone ahead? Answer - Yes, I can live with this little imperfection - so good not to have to faff with contact lenses anymore.
Also - yes you can smell your eyeball burn - really not nice but it is over in seconds.
My mother and father in law had correction lasering done at the same time as their cataracts were removed.
Mother in law fine only prob was has asian genes way back in history which effected how quickly they healed after apparently.
Father in law had one eye perfect but the other eye they corrected to the wrong specification which meant vision wasn't perfect - he became long instead of short sighted which took a while to adjust to.
His advice to us- check the numbers before they laser you! Husband considering lasering, I'm ok with contacts at moment.
blimey so many less than perfect outcomes! I've been beating myself up for years for being too chicken to consider this.....but now I'll tell myself it's just an informed decision not to!
