Tailends exists to take in elderly or terminally ill dogs (often - but not exclusively - greyhounds). Our dogs come from situations of abuse or neglect and are unlikely to be re-homed in the normal way.

The greyhounds have normally lived their entire lives in kennels - initially as racing dogs and then kept in bleak conditions out of sight of the general public and with no chance of a home. They have rarely received any veterinary care or pain relief. Some have been fed poor quality food and had infrequent access to clean fresh water. They have sometimes been housed, without coats or proper bedding, in kennels that provide limited protectionfrom the weather. They commonly suffer from crippling diseases, untreated infections or old

One of their current residents is Judy a lovely old Yellow Girl

Judy arrived at Tailends on Saturday 7th April from Rotherham Dog Rescue. She is an elderly Labrador who has come from a grim situation in Huddersfield dog pound where she was very depressed. She seemed to be very unhappy on arrival and we had difficulty getting her out of the car. However once she was in the garden with the other dogs her tail started to wag and her eyes lit up. She went for a little walk, ate a good supper of fresh chicken and vegetables and then curled up on a comfortable bed to sleep. Every now and again she opens her eyes and looks at me and then falls off to sleep again. She is seriously overweight and has large callouses on her legs and sore patches on her tail. Her ears are very mucky but this should be dealt with quickly. It would seem that she has been kept outside in kennels during her life and has had little exercise, but she is now very appreciative of some home comforts. It is a joy to see her stretched out relaxed and happy on a nice thick duvet. Judy has various health issues and is being treated with antibiotics and analgesics. She has really brightened up and is now happily enjoying sunny walks and playing with toys.

Judy and the other residents are available for sponsorship through the Tailends website

No, they all live with Angela for as long as they have left, she only takes in the ones no one else will have or can take.

Some have been with her a couple of years some only weeks or days, but they all get the chance of love and a warm bed, some have never experienced this in their lives Sad

She would probably appreciate old duvets, collars and vet bandages more than flowers Laughing Laughing

My black lab (now 8 years old) went missing (likely stolen) in early September 2008 and her name is Judy. I have just come across this post and I have tried to get on to the Tailends website to make contact but my browser won't connect. Can you tell me their phone number and contact details please so I can check their Judy is not my girl.
