Labadmin,

I was thinking about not restricting ALL the information. But a lot of it. Over time google will find certain sections available and not others. Wouldn't the search engines still then not allow access to the site, if they found something one month and not another, but something else the following month?

That is a good idea to restrict Search to subs.

Sue

I've sent 2 messages to you now and not had a response - both about the same thing.

Sometimes I need to access my old posts particularly when trying to help someone who's lab has HD, but I can't retrieve any old posts past the 1st page. I asked if this could be sorted but have had no response from you.

As far as renewing goes, I've just renewed for another year

make an offer of lowering the subscription rate for that month.
This is an idea I already have on the plate and will be announced when and where on the forthcoming email newsletter Wink

A number of LF members are also pet related companies and I will be emailing them soon to ask for discounts for subscribers in exchange for inclusion in a new discounts database

FREE trials allow someone who has a problem to come on and sort it and leave, I tried these on another forum i run and they dont seem to work unfortunately.

One coding change i have made today which wasn't in place (An oversight from when i switched to subscriptions) was to make the site search facility subscription access only, i have now done this and so the information may be there but its awkward and time consuming to access without being a subscriber now Wink

I've pm'd you! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Does anyone use the games on the site, I know I don't perhaps we could loose those, would that lower the cost which could then be passed onto making the subs cheaper, then lock up more of the threads so only people that have paid subs can see them, the fact that it's cheaper might attract some of those that have been put off.............

A few ideas;
Magazine or newsletter... Weekly or Monthly perhaps... With fun competitions etc... Even if the prizes are 'fake' and its just say an extra crown above your name for a week if you win etc....Also, information regarding possible upcomming doggy events or larger GT's etc...Possibly a few exciting/inspiring stories.

Everyone here loves to read anything lab/doggy related, otherwise we wouldn't be here...So i think a mag/newletter - either by email or hardcopy would appeal to a lot of people.

Also, more compeitions on the website itself. It seems a lot of the fun picture competitions and other fun comps have died down quite considerably. Again, even if it was silly fake prizes such as lab points, extra gold/silver stars or crowns or an extra 10% off furbabies etc etc.

I personally don't think its the £10 people have a gripe with.... £10 is not a big deal. I think its WHERE that £10 is going that people have a possible issue with...as like has been said several times, you can get labrador or dog/animal info from plenty of other sites for free. Sites which host and hold far more members than this one and are run completely free of charge for members. Additionally, other sites which ask you to pay a sub-fee yearly seem to give much bigger bonuses and advantages over the yearly period. I think its where the money is going and what is being done with it, NOT the issue of actually paying it, imo...

Just got to say, isn't that the case with any product or service we buy? When we go and buy a new pair of trousers, do we analyse where our £20 will be going? What proportion was actually spent in making the trousers and what proportion the shop will get? No, because we liked the trousers, were happy to pay £20 for them and will get good use out of them accordingly. To me, LF is the same. No-one forced me to hand over my tenner, I am happy to pay the 3p a day to use the forums and good on Dave and Julie if they make a few quid out of it.

Vicki

Edited to add - not really aimed at you directly Jill, more in general.

agree with Golden touch, we are paying money so should get something back like a mag or news letter.
I get a monthly news letter with about 5 pages in it from a amputee group, and they dont even have a joining fee. so its not going to break the bank seeing we are paying 10 pounds

Vicki, i totally agree.
I get lots out of the forums....But with all respect, i get lots out of other forums i use too...Ones which are free to join and STILL give me benifits of discounts on products etc.
One forum i am a member of is £12 each year, and i get access to everything, in addition to getting huge discounts, fun days out with other members either free of charge or huge discounts again, and a glossy magazine sent to my door by the website, with all the updates etc. Their community of members is no dofferent to this forum (the only difference is interests...its gaming, not doggy related hehe)
The internet is a competitive place and I think in this market and current economy you have to sell yourself above the rest or people will just join a free site instead or one which has bigger and better incentives. Maybe i'm wrong and every single person will renew this year...But as the original poster (admin) said, numbers are dropping.

Don't worry i know that wasn't aimed directly at me Very Happy mine is also very general...I just don't want to put "Too all LF staff and members" at the beginning of every post Laughing Laughing

Putting this here too as probably better suited than on the other thread:

Just one suggestion - what about being able to convert LabPounds into vouchers for Furbabies? Obviously not "pound for pound" but maybe say 10,000 Labpounds would give you £5 to spend at Furbabies? May encourage people to post more, and would reward regular posters (who "make" the website) for their input.
