when i rang argos to renew ollie's policy they asked if he had been castrated and as he had been the premium would come down to £14.91 per month with a £7500 per year for life premium policy Very Happy so that is 9p per month cheaper than when we first insured him even after over £10,000 worth of claims Very Happy and they have always been great Very Happy

Eve, that's good your insurance pays out for Neo's food, I'm sure the Petplan small print says they won't pay indefinitely for special food Confused I'm starting to feel worried now thinking my policy isn't so great.

I currently pay £38 per month with pet plan for unlimited cover for life. Not had any renewal notice but I am sure it is due soon.

After reading this thread I went to the pet guard site recommended by Eve and got a quote...

For £7500 per year lifetime cover, with additional cover such as emergency boarding and holiday cancellation, plus public liability cover of £1m (all of these standard with my pet plan insurance) and my quote was... £49.75 per month Shocked Shocked Shocked

Bog standard 12 month cover of £7500 (i.e. up to £7500 for 12months from the condition starting but not covered beyond that), and no frills was still £41.

Absolutely unreal. When I ask for a quote using my mum's postcode (northumberland) the full cover quote was £19.33.....

I know I live in London, but I just can't believe a £30 per month difference.

Update on my insurance. Just had my renewal notice through from pet plan 2 weeks before it auto renews.

my policy has gone from unlimited vets fees covered for life, £90 excess, all for £38 per month

to

£12,000 max vets fees per year for life and £100 excess for £51.08 per month.

I told them to forget it and now have to shop around. It's outrageous that they think putting the policy up by 33% for less cover and greater excess is acceptable when I haven't claimed all year.

Peter I just checked that using an East London Postcode, obviously I don;t know where you live but just chose what should be an expensive area for the full cover

£7,500 a year for life with additional cover and £1 million liability came out with £41.92 a month.....

Actually you've just made me think....just checked and I think they've put their rates up since I took the policy out....how very dare they???!!!!

thanks Eve, I have gotten quotes from a few companies and have asked about Axa in a different thread as they quoted me £28 for £7500 per year for life cover.

I am just gob smacked at the increase.

Lordy - I haven't read all this thread but I am filled with fear - Fife's policy already costs me over £ 70 per month, with a huge excess and me paying a percentage of the bill too. I get discount for lots of dogs, and the others are about £ 24 ish each. I can't change, because Fife has had lots of mast cell tumours removed, but if mine goes up as much as yours have then it is really questionable whether to insure him at all. That's a lot of money which I could put by in an account for him. I have always had my dogs insured, but when they get old you think how much would you actually put them through in the way of operations? Each lump cost about £ 350 to remove, but if he got any more now would I put him through Chemo, or would I just have the lumps removed again? God it is so awful. My renewal isn't until August thank goodness, so I will have to really think about it then. Life without Fife is not worth even considering, there is no question that I would do anything and everything for him, but I will certainly chat to my lovely vet about the sensible thing to do - put money in a bank account each month for Fife, or give it to the insurance company. What do other people do with older dogs? (I should read the whole thread!!)

Katy

I have just had the renewal notice from Morethan for Kelly (3 yrs old) & it works out at £16.99 per month. Anyone think this amount is excessive?
Will have to take a look & see if I can get a better quote.
