Thanks Sherry. I'm just a bit of a perfectionist (has stood me well academically, but is a royal pain in the bum in other areas of my life ) and if a job's worth doing, it's worth doing right. Fee's probably the only person I could meet up with from the class - but my worry would be that Bracken would be a real hindrance to Pasco and I'd be a hindrance to Fee who's already given me lots of much needed help and advice.
Need to get myself booked in for a training session with Ian (Eshiels) methinks - but having forked out for the grade 1 course, I'll need to save up some pennies first.
I just want to say that my experience with the Gundog Club training to date have been entirely positive. we only had 4 maximum in the class, and one dog was VERY naughty (but a joy all the same!) All the dogs made huge strides, the trainer was excellent and incredibly patient with us numpties, but best of all was that she gave us all confidence that we could end up with dogs we could be proud of (if we put the work in) and that the whole world of Khaki wasn't a million miles away, should we want to persue things.
Becs, I too had a very positive first experience with Huds at the gundog club! All the dogs were of a similar level and everyone made progress at an approximately similar level. But at that class all but one of us had our dog at a sort of reasonable level. There is definetly one weakest link in our class with a muppity owner. Three are on a similar level and will probably progress well (Moj, Black dog, choc pup?)... that includes Moj and Bracken. One is a springer who is out of place completely and one is Pasco!
My original post isn't to knock the Gundog club at all, quite the contrary, I want to make the most of it for both me and for Pasco. I've had some fab advice how to do that, so thanks to everyone
I certainly don't want to make Moj or for that matter anyone else in the class feel bad because I've been there! If anyone remembers me giving out about a Golden Retriever lady who "knew it all" last year when I went with Huds to his Grade One class?? I had a right old moan about how her dog was soooo much better than the rest of us!
Anyway, Morag, don't be so hard on yourself. You are EXACTLY where I was last summer with Hudson. I thought I was getting on good guns with him and he showed me up good style at just about every class until about week 6. Then click! Don't get disheartned, just keep working at it. Next week, come stand next to me we'll make light of it all. After all, we are doing it for fun!
Oh and if its any consolation, I was lugging in to muppet lady talking to the trainer and she said she was going on holiday for a "few weeks"

don't worry it will click into place.....Basil takes about 3 session/weeks in most new situations to go from class delinquent to super keen swot
It's just a new situation that's all. Basil whined in his first group sesion, needed a long line for his first 1-2-1's and even took a while to get used to retrieving other peoples dummies as opposed to his own
Everytime I add even the smallest 'new' thing to training he goes backwards a long long way - but they soon sort themselves out
I don't like failure either and was gutted when I found my self saying 'je's never done that before' several times over
