Friend of mine has 4 children (aged 5-11), 2 cats, 1 collie aged about 3. She's a fantastic mum and very relaxed about life. Do anything for anybody type of person.
Having looked after Kaya for a long weekend a couple of times, she has decided she'd like another dog, but thought a puppy would be too much work (she also works couple of mornings a week). She approached a local rescue place (an RSPCA one I think). Their reaction confused me - they said she already had enough on with kids and cats and 1 dog, any adult dog would be too much, they suggested a 7 month dalmatian pup though.

I do realise an adult rescue dog could have issues - but wouldn't that be part of the rehoming package - to wait for the right one that would be ok with the other variables ( Wink well - non variables really I suppose! Laughing )

Am I wrong? or are they wrong?

I would have thought a 7 month old Dally would be the last dog they would recommed Confused Surely they could find something more suitable, as lovely as they are, Dallys are a bit frantic, especially pupsters.

Perhaps your friend could approach a different rescue (with more sense Rolling Eyes )

That doesn't exactly sound like a wise recommendation for someone who already has a lot on Confused

Could you let her know about Oldies Club:
http://www.oldies.org.uk

We are a rescue charity and we also list older dogs for lots of other rescues across the UK. The dogs are aged seven up, so some are older rather than "oldies".

An adult dog *may* have issues but it's not always the case - does your friend know why was the Dalmatian in rescue? Is she particularly looking for a Dalmatian or just a suitable family dog needing a home?

i am gobsmacked really.......surely the rescue knows something about dalmatians........ they are lovely but very demanding dogs especially when young.

I don`t have a lot of faith in the RSPCA I`m afraid, if your friend is looking for an adult to rescue why on earth offer her a puppy!.

I`d go to a different rescue too Smile

Bit of a bizzare recommendation eh? Some rescue centres do have rules about not homing with children,or children under a certain age which I personally feel should be taken on each case merit and not across the board but to say she had enough on already was a bit cheeky (they want to visit my household!) and dalmations are lovely but potty pups,I think I would try another centre.
