Just wondering what the difference are between puppy tests and NDNH tests esp when they are run on the same day?

i'm presuming the test itself would be the same?

For a novice handler with a puppy..... do i enter puppy or NDNH??? Rolling Eyes

my brain is wandering at this late hour so humour me Very Happy

Are you sitting there with your entries Sam... Very Happy Me too, they've been sitting on the coffee table and I've been meaning to do them all week - still haven't got round to it yet.

Personally, I would go for NDNH - in puppy you are likely to be up against very experienced handlers with puppies. I think Di sets the same tests for both, but I have seen puppy tests very close to novice too so I think it varies.

I qualify for a couple of special puppy tests but will probably go with NDNH (assuming she doesn't come into season then).

Will be interesting to hear the views of others.

Sam you are only going to get the chance to enter a few puppy tests before Finn is over the age, so you may as well enter the ones that you can, once he is ready. I have been discussing this with Neil and basically you are over the age limit so quickly.

In fact, I am not even sure if we can all do that URC one in August because if it is puppies up to 18 months our lot are 18 months on the 27th August and the test isn't until the 30th August Shocked .

After that you have plenty of time for NDNH - all the time in the world in fact! Very Happy

The Bucks Area Puppy Tests are not too bad Sam, there is no jumping where there might be in the NDNH. And the same really applies to the Chiltern Gundog tests.

Some of the puppy test are getting ridiculous IMHO. Last year I watched one where the dogs had to do nearly everything including stop on the whitle, walk out, sit and stay and then be sent back. I think it encourages people to push their dogs. I am very selective when it comes to puppy tests. I mean whats the rush.

In general just my opinion, if Puppy and NDNH tests are run on the same day they will almost always be exactly the same tests. If they had wanted the puppy tests to be harder they would have run them with a Novice...

So I always advise NOVICE handlers but with a Puppy to go in NDNH because they will be against their peers in terms of handling. Novice Handlers. Going in Puppy when you COULD be in NDNH will put you over the same tests but against handlers with years of exeperience bringing on their new puppies.

You can always ring the WT sec you know and ASK if they plan the tests to be of different abilities. Secretaries NEVER mind. Honest.

That is unless you actually have one of Di's pups and then she makes you go into the puppy just so you are tested!!! Razz Wink

Thanks for the replies. Think i'll contact some of the sec's for some of the clubs who are running them on the same day and ask about whether they will be the same test etc

where they are the same, are you just all jumbled in together during the tests or split into different groups?

jill.....

You will almost certainly be split into managemable sized groups, usually maximum 10 or 12 and yes you will be with the people running in YOUR test.
