John,
I think we need to do a rethink. The basic principle is a good idea. The pup AKA The Thug, just could not make up her mind which dummy to pick up and changed her mind halfway back to put it down and pick up other one. It could be the b----y hare dummy after all. She is an absolute cow.

Ian,
Thanks for your ideas. She is very good at holding and walking to heel holding. It really is only when it is a retrieve. Hang on I am having a brain movement. I am going to try reinforcing the 'hold' in a verbal command as she is coming back. I am going to go back a few steps and get her to 'hold' on command and move on from there.
Sherry
right back out side before it goes dark!

'Cos the ratbag will just keep letting it slip anyway.
I've tried jumping up and down to get her to move her arse quickly. I tried running away. Someone suggest I tried lying down on ground as she was intimidated by me standing up. All that happened was that she dropped dummy and came to join in the game and I got more covered in mud than I usually did.
I also tried no retrieves for a week, thinking she might be really keen. She just kept throwing dummy up in the air.
Sherry..... going insane!

well my darling sherry as you are fully aware i only talk nonsense but walking away and ignoring any fumblings worked for mine, maybe u are so fed up of not getting want you want from the dog you are frustrated or anxious before you even start training. maybe it would help to go out to an alien piece of ground that your dog doesnt know and just try it somehere new

Ah Trev,
I know you are only trying to help, but, hand on heart, I really don't think I am guilty of fumbling.I am not a fumbling kinda girl.
I really think that too many years of training has stopped any kind of anxiety from getting in the way of a training session.
What I am guilty of is - I can't see the wood for the trees and I am missing something.
I have an idea and I am going to try it out tomorrow and will let you know how I get on.
You don't talk nonsense, you just lark about -nothing wrong withthat.
Sherry
