Sorry Jem-D, too many J's, wrong one!!!

I know you are far to strict to enter into negotiation with your dogs!!!

Whereas Jac has a Flatcoat, and pleading does have a part to play!!!

Andrew

See, totally justified Wink Actually my "please" may come out in a more of an expletive manner, and she has learnt a very apt paw signal as a response Razz

I thought of another command that I use Shocked . I don't think I have used it with the younger dogs, but certainly all the older dogs know the command LISTEN!

I use it when everything has gone wrong Rolling Eyes and they are out away from me sitting on a stop whistle - it means just 'old it there a minute while I regroup and decide what to blinkin try next"!!!!

Jill, can I ask why a 'stop' whistle wouldn't do the same job as a listen command?

Helen it is probably a command that is more for me to regroup my thoughts than for the dog. What it means to me is "just sit there and wait while I try to decide what we are going to do next". What it is supposed to mean to the dog is listen very carefully for my next command because you haven't been getting it right up to now Rolling Eyes .

I have to say I actually picked it up (another bad habit I think) when training with Nick Eaglen!

Oh hell, I have just been out with pup and realised I do another one that I will own up to.
'Watch' - hand holding titbit between finger and thumb and hand up next to face in a sit hand signal. That one came from the year dot and an old old boy who used to run our sheep at home. Not a gundogman, a shepherd!
I found it gets dogs to reeally look at you. I soon get rid of it though.
There is nothing so annoying as a dog stopping on whistle, then head swivelling to see where it might be sent. I like a dog to focus on me.
I like the idea of the dogs responding to 'right and left' command. But I get mixed up with my right and left, so I would mess that one right up.
Rotty has another one 'bog off' when he burps slimy yuk onto you.
Sherry
