I'm so cross but equally so so sad. You know when youy can see something happening (from a distance) but before you know what to do the car crash has happened before your very eyes?

Not sure what, if anything i sholud do, how involved i should get but needed to get this off my chest...

There is a female i know, let's call her L, who i used to go to primary school with and has a daughter the same age as my son, 5 and a 3 year old boy.

We used to go to the same antenatal class and got quite friendly. Anyway we had a bit of a falling out this time last year, i won't go into details but basically i didn't think she was providing the sort of environment that was best for her children and in all honesty was rather selfish and attention seeking. Basically she said she couldn't cope with her two children, whereas it seemed to all that she didn't want to now there was a new man in her life, he took priority.

But we were still classed as "friends" on facebook. I didn't delete her as i don't wish for any amnimosity or harm but i just don't to associate with her, not have my son around that sort of environment.

Anyway, about 3 weeks ago, i noticed on facebook updates on the home page that she had updated her staus at 2pm to say "Yay, we're getting a puppy!". I think to myself what a bl@@dy stupid idea. If you are having issues feeling overwhelmed single mum why on earth would you get a puppy!!?? I mull it over and am seriously thinking of calling the RSPCA to see whether they do any sort of educational stuff that may put her off (as i'm sure otherwise i'd be told it is her human right to own a dog if she chooses Rolling Eyes ). BUT when i next turn my pc on it says "Yay, we got the puppy! Layla is the new addition to our family", at 4pm...

Which leads me to perhaps wrongly believe that this purchase was not from a responsible breeder asking suitable questions etc on the basis that you decide to get a puppy at 2 and then pick it up at 4.... Certainly if i was a breeder i would have serious reservations about selling her a puppy based on her housing -(small 1/2 bed ground floor flat).

Anyway deed is done. She later announces that puppy is a rottie. What a disaster methinks. NOT THAT I HAVE ANYTHING AGAINST ROTTIES. but to a novice dog owner, with two small children and little time, i think this is a car crah waiting to happen.

I ask a friend who i leant my really good puppy book to (can't remember the name, but it was recomended on here) to pass it on and hope for the best, as i'm sure after our fall out the last thing she wants is me coming over the know it all trying to tell her how to handle this puppy (i'm not a know it all AT ALL but i'm sure comparitively that's how it would look!)

Anwya i come back from a lovely weekend away in edinburgh last night to turn on FB and have these as the status updates...

12.40pm- "L has got an 11 week old rottie puppy with all paperwork that needs to go TODAY. Anyone interested inbox me"

13.12 "L's puppy's gone - that was quick!"

18.24 "L still has the puppy, if anyone is interested let me know"

So i'm sat there with my mouth aghast thinking how on earth can anyone try and well get rid is the only way she is looking at this, on facebook!!!!????

I've had a look at the rottie rescue trust and sent her the link and phone number, explaining that they will find a decent home for her who can care for her properly rather than just the nearest person who will take her.

God knows what she will reply, if anything, (in her opinion i'm the nosey, doggy know it all remember!)

I'm seriously thinking about going and getting this poor poor puppy now from her and trying to find a suitable rescuse myself. BUT...

I am not in a position to have this puppy long term, or really fro longer than a few days. I am currently 11 weeks pg and throwing my guts up like theres no tomorrow and as of next week i go back to work (3 hours a day, almost 4 inc travel, not fair on a tiny baby like that) PLus my husband would kill me!!

How easy would it be for me to find a good rescue willing to try and rehome her. I don't want this poor poor puppy to end up in the wrong hands after such a rough start but i know in my heart that i could not provide a home here for her.

Unsure what to do really. Later this morning in think i will phone the rescue trust myself and see what they say.

Just feel that i can't stand by and watch this poor girl go to the first person on facebook who fanices it... Crying or Very sad

I don`t think the rescue can just go and take the pup, she has to take her to them or call and ask for help, I may be wrong though.

Can understand your frustration and wanting to help this poor pup, tou`ve done what you can so far by giving her details of Rottie Rescue, no harm in giving the rescue a call and seeing if they can help in any way Smile

Tough situation, and I agree with Mary. Give the rescue place a call and see what can be done. If you can have it for a few days, they may be able to take it off your hands (that is, of course, if your "friend" lets you have it)....good luck though. These situations are always difficult.

When my girls are in season, my son takes my Rotty down to live with him for a few weeks in Richmond. He was out with dog in Richmond park and someone came up and handed him the lead of a young female Rott
and said they couldn't keep her and all the rescues were full and they were told by the police to LET HER GO in the park. I found her a home, but can you imagine just releasing dog to fend for its self. Can you imagine the fright of people. I have even heard of peole tying Rottys up and leaving them.
With the situation with that pup, it comes down again the the breeders. When I got my boy, I was interrogated at length, I almost had matches under the finger nails to make sure I was capable of having a male Rottweiler. My son thinks I am frightening, I have nothing on his breeder.
Seriously, I hope this pup does find its way into rescue as at least they will be able to pass it on to someone suitable.

right, well i called the breed rescue.

They were lovely and very helpful.

They basically said that they were unable to reply to adverts and things but, if i were able to take on poor puppy for a few days as a foster that they would be able to pick her up on thurs/fri of this week. I need to get this girl to sign a transfer of care form to the rescue to relinquish any rights she has over the dog.

I have got a friend to speak to her as she won't speak to me directly Rolling Eyes (honestly i am trying to sort out this mess that YOU caused, please don't act like you are doing ME a favour!! I am only doing this for this poor little dog!) and she said she will think about it as "really she wanted to make some money back from her" (Oh my god, please let me scream into my pillow with frustration!!)

So i'm wating til this afternoon to hear from her...

Will keep you updated....

If you can go and get the puppy and hold it until rescue can take her, then I would. If the rottie rescue struggles to help, please let me know as I know a couple of people very involved in the breed, who own rescue rotties themselves, and would happily ask them for ideas/help for you. Whereabouts are you/the pup?

She doesn't seem to care where the poor dog ends up, so I really hope you can get the puppy from her. Thank you for caring.

I'm in a village just outside of watford, herts and the pup is in st albans, herts.

I'm really hoping that things will go ok with rescue, she did say we promise to help you with this if you can get the pup, and not to leave you in the lurch.

Fingers x ed...

Cool, good luck. I wasn't doubting rottie rescue, just offering another possibility if for some reason things changed - you never know what dogs a rescue is going to get asked to take each day.

If she's reluctant to sign the dog over to rescue, maybe she'd sign her over to you and then the pup would be yours to do what you want with (ie sign her over to rescue Wink). Really hope she will put the poor thing above £££. Keep us posted?
