Hello!
I don't want to blow my own trumpet but I really need to share this with other doggie people.
Was walking with Mackie yesterday evening and went back through the middle of my village. This staffie bitch came shooting out of a side road, straight across the main road, and ran straight at Mackie. I was expecting to see her owner running around in the background somewhere but there was no one to be seen.
I was puzzled but she ran off, and I walked on with Mackie. Five minutes later she was back round Mackie, then running into the road, back up the street, back to Mackie... Cars were assuming she was mine so shouting & beeping at me to get her on a lead. Very stressful! She didn't have a collar so I managed to loop the other end of Mackie's lead around her neck like a slip lead. She was a beautiful red staffie, well looked after, very friendly, & obviously cared for.
Long Story short: took her to the vet (no chip), vet can't keep her, dog warden closed at 8pm, rescue won't take her. Panic panic! So took her home and fed her some chicken, then out walking the streets with Mackie's collar & lead. Asked loads of people if they recognised her (helpful suggestions included "look theres a collar with tags, why not phone the number?" Because it's got my phone number on it!!! ) Eventually found her owners driving around shouting on her! Reunited after finding her at about 6:30, and finding them at about 9pm.
brilliant mate and well done, bet they were pleased with you and I hope you got a large thank you from the owners. Bloody lucky it did not get hit my a car and that you found it and was good enough to take it in.
Cheers! I think the owners were just so relieved to get her back they didn't think about anything else so didn't really get a thank you from them but TBH it was worth it to see them all happy!
So lovely to hear that a staffy had a home to go back to for once!
That's very true, I now work/ volunteer at an local animal rescue shelter place and out of the 9 dogs I look after in the morning 4 are Staffs and one is a Lab staff cross, yet there all so lovely and I think they have been given a bad reputation which is a shame, as the ones I care for and so loving, just need a firm hand and some training and time, as all breeds do really.
Thats great Diana, good to know the owners were searching for her, thank goodness you had the presense of mind to pop the handle end of Mackie`s lead round her neck
