Hi
I cant really comment on the subject but I wonder if you have spoken to Richard Edwards (Lasgarn Labradors) He is a font of all knowledge with Labradors. He has written a couple of books on the history of labrador lines. These are predominantly show lines but many did produce working dogs or are behind them (Ballyduff being an example). The books may also be interesting wider reading.
Richard does a great seal of study across the board and is a regular visitor to the Kennel CLub Library and archive. He is a lovely guy and very easy to talk to. I am sure he could help even to point you in tht right direction on certain lines you may be struggling with??
Good look I look for ward to seeing it - on a constructive note - it would be nice to have a few pictures to illustrate the kennels (you may already have thought of this ) as some books are just test based and not as easily absorbed (by me anyway!!)
And it is lovely to compare old with new.
Could I just remind you that this is not just about blood lines, it is really about how people and dogs influenced Trials.
The main theme is the people and how they came to be doing what they do or did and the dogs that took them there.
I have my own favourites and a good knolwlege of bloodlines past and present. I am trying to have a broad view on what other people see as a 'good' trainer/dog/influence on the trialing scene.
Thereis a pattern emerging over the country and this initself is very intersting. Iam finding each area has agreeing favoiurites.
Some of the top trainers virtually fell into the dog lark. There are top trainers who haven't bred anything of note. There are trainers who haven't trained from a puppy. There are people who have bred superb dogs who have never competed.
It has been a real eye opener for me and it is soooo enjoyable. Best of all, I have met some fascinating people whose life stories are amazing.
Keep that grey matter buzzing and give me your thoughts.
Thanks Sherry
I've always thought that Ballyellery Adder must have been a very influential dog, and worth considering siring both Theoweir Turramurra Teal, and Aughacasla Sam.
Teal sired on of my favourites, Kenue Fir of Leadburn.
Remus has got to be up there as well.
As someone else mentioned Glenbriar Solo, a Remus son, the list of FTCH's on Bobby Robertsons website is very, very impressive indeed.
In terms of dogs I've seen trialling in the flesh, FTCH Pocklea Adder, a son of Remus, is the most impressive dog I've seen, very subjective opinion I know, but are n't they all?
