Hiya

Oh yippee another opportunity to bang on about tattooing Wink

First chipping, Tilly was done at her inital jabs, with no problems.

Tattoing should ONLY be done by these people to prevent having lots of different databases like the current situation / problem with chip companies

http://www.dog-register.co.uk/

Here is a link to when I had Tilly done. Other members on here have followed suit and I am sure will be happy to answer any Q's as will I.

http://www.labradorforums.co.uk/ftopict-2439-tillys.html+tattoo

Also if you do a quick ' search forums ' for tattoos there are other members experiences to, some on real young pups....

Either way you are right, you need to protect your pup, Alfie can't speak to protect himself, or tell the warden where he lives, or even worse should he be stolen.....no way of tracking him or identifying him.
You are his voice...Only you can save him......

Sorry sounds bleak and bossy, not intended, but we know from facts and are desparately trying to get the message out. We have too many ' statistics ' on lost labs.....please make sure Alfie is never one of them

Hope this helps....... Very Happy

big tattoo advocate here too - i had Ruby done at 9 weeks old and she breezed through it. I posted too http://www.labradorforums.co.uk/ftopict-4563-.html

Ruby aids the cause too as she runs around her ear flaps over and its always the tatood one so she must be proud of it too Laughing Laughing

I used one from the dog register info too - if you are interested pm me and i will tell you which one I used and the in's and outs. Also there is an additional person in suffolk that tattoo's that hasnt been updated on the websote yet that I can pass on to you if you wish.

Man opposite me insists Ruby will get fat if I spay her and she will be lazy - I told him to **** off (in a jokey type way so he didnt lamp me one) his dog is 14 months old and sired 3 litters hmmm

Just caught up with this thread and I must say the alarm bells are ringing as regards this fella. I think I would be tempted to tell him (if you see him again) that your lovely lad has a terrible disease ( make one up if you like, he doesn't sound that knowledgeable) and has to take lots of expensive medication to keep him alive and well. That should put him off the trail and you never know he may spread the word to any ill intentioned mates too.

Many dogs go missing whether microchipped, tattooed or not and are never found. You can not be too careful.

Jules.

PS I would get him tatooed rather than chipped in this case (or both if you can afford to) as at least a tatoo is visible.

Hi routemarcher

Just to slightly correct this statement.......this may be the case with some genuinely lost dogs but it is a fact that the majority of stolen dogs with tattoos are dumped withing 20 miles / 20 mins.....

Thank you so much everyone, i'm going to walk Alfie now but i'll be looking at the website when i get back to find the nearest tattooist.

Does tattooing hurt him? it sounds painful Sad how do they keep him still long enough to do it? Confused does it fade over time? are there any side effects from it? sorry for the all the questions, obviously can't be too bad though as others go through it. I'll Pm you later Vicky, you don't live too far away from me so would be interested to find out where Ruby was done.

I will definately be getting this done, i was thinking about it and it's quite worrying to think i have no way of proving he's mine or detering the thieves Sad I feel really irresponsible now Crying or Very sad

Don't beat yourself up over it...honestly it's just a learning curve many go through...... Wink

3p and I always nag Wink we know how important proper identification is and go on and on and on about it ( ok, sorry 3p I'm the biggest nag ok? Embarassed ).....but only because we want to help protect all pups so should the unthinkable ever happen, they come home real quick.

As for your Q's, most can be answered by Vicky's thread or mine.

It really is the simplest of procedures, quick, no side effects and you will suffer more than the pup - promise Wink

Contacting Vicky is an excellent idea as she is local to you but equally feel free to PM me at any time.

Opps forgot.....

If it were me I would not be letting of lead until he is protected.

Also, if you are asked, yes he is chipped, with GPS .....and DNA'd. Remeber the DNA, many thieves have their own scanners, locate and ' remove ' chips !!!

Me paranoid? Well maybe a bit yeah, but we know all the clever tricks of thieves, and regarding labs, they mostly all involve food ! You won't stand a chance.

Can be over so quick..... not scaremongering at all...just hoping to raise awareness. Wink
