Thank you for the nice comments although I do of course realise most of those are really about the quality of th pictures, and we are VERY lucky down South, we have Nick Ridley occasionally pop up but many many working events host Richard Pettet or Matt Breach so us poor camera-phobes can now build up a decent portfolio of shots! It used to just be entry fee and petrol you had to worry about, now add photo charges from all the smashing shots to that!
Sam - The red dog is Abney Acer owned and handled by Isobel Whitford bred by David England. He gained a COM in this trial. He is a Rouble son.
" Just one question...I've been meaning to ask for a while but these photos prompted me. Why is it you always seem to be the youngest person there Di? "
Jules asks the above - answer, I don't know. To be fair trialling is expensive and almost always midweek, so few young people take part partly because we all have jobs and by the end of the year its all about taking days holiday for trials. The nature OF trials also, where its all often about getting last minute runs when people drop out, is a very difficult issue for someone with a job. Its hard to get bosses to understand you need days holiday with 24 hours notice and so on! And if you are OFFERED runs, you really need to take them up as clubs don't look that kindly on entering, and then turning a run DOWN without an excellent reason. So it is a tricky balance act when you work.
lastly yes basically we DO tend to be some of the youngest people working the dogs in competitive events being in our mid 30's. Luckily and happily the shooting field is full of younger and same age people coming through but not all wish to compete with their dogs. That level of commitment is reasonably few and far between in people below retirement age.

sarah - paddy - Montage..... well I've not had the exact price through yet but its around £40 for 5 pictures, a large one in the centre and one at each corner. Great for a woman who couldn't decide between a few! Me! Won't afford to treat myself to THOSE very often

Thanks for the explanation Di...and yes now I can see why the younger generations would find it difficult as they can't just drop Work/Uni/College etc at the drop of a hat to go and compete. It's nice to hear there are some youngsters out there working their dogs though. I can't think of anything better for a young active person, than having an Outdoors hobby and getting to work with dogs is just the icing on the cake.
