I think its great that you are doing so well with Mallie. When I was looking to get Tia, I did a lot of research because I wanted a brown labrador. And I spoke to a lot of people that were very against brown labs saying they were untrainable. But both Tia's parentage sides come from working backgrounds. So the more browns doing trails etc the better. The poem is great too. Keep up the good work!
Fanflippintastic!!!! You are a funny one Diana Stevens!!
We love Mals ginger arse... long may it remain!!!! In fact if it doesnt then I shall buy some Sun In to make sure it does..... unless thats what Shiney has been doing all this time with out you knowing!!! xxxxxx
Trialling is a strange sport. Ruthlessly unforgiving - one small mistake, or even just a bit of bad luck and you can be out on your arse straight away. That's despite having got up half and hour earlier than you usually go to bed, and trecked across the country, fighting your way through rush hour traffic all to have it cruelly snatched away in the first few minutes 'in line'. And you nearly always have to take a day's holiday just to be there!
I can't even figure out if I actually enjoy it! Can I really be enjoying something where even (especially!) if I am doing well I'm silently willing the judges to decide that they have seen enough and call a halt? Thats because however well the dog has gone so far, the next retrieve can see it all come crashing back to earth!
Given the choice over nearly anything I would be trialling today, and yet within a very short time could be wishing that I had gone shooting / picking up/ beating - or even just gone to work(! ) instead.
So why do I do it? Not a clue - other than maybe the feeling you get when the dog nails a really tricky retrieve that you just know is going to put you in 'contention', or better still when you're driving home with a trophy laying on the passengers seat next to you.
Whatever, all things being well I'll be doing it again next season!
All you wrote is so, so true. The times I have wished for it to be all over before I had heart attack. It was usually when I had driven to the other end of the country, that I went out early. But then, as you say, a memorable retrieve or better still the silver keeps you going!
