We have never had insurance for Sam, we paid the vet if and when
he was needed. However Sam will be 6 this year and we want to
make sure we do the best we can for him.
So I was wondering if any of you kind people could maybe tell me
about policies that might be suitable for us. He is perfectly fit and well
at the moment, but you never know what will happen in the future.
Have looked at tesco and asda insurance but they only pay a set amount
for any illness, we are really looking for lifetime cover incase of things
like arthritis.

Thank you for reading this. Laughing

Carol.

I'm not an insurance expert so these are just my thoughts - please take proper advice Wink

I am not sure much beats Petplan but it is blimmin expensive too. AXA seems pretty reasonable with good cover - they used to underwrite the M&S policy (which is when I took an M&S one out) but they don't now, so I would probably go with AXA direct rather than M&S if I were choosing from the two.

I think it is definitely worth getting an £x amount for vet fees per year type policy, which renews afresh each year - eg £7k for the first year, renewing at £7k again for the second year and ongoing. I'd rather take out one like this than £x amount per condition.

One thing to bear in mind is if you have paid out already to have the vets treat your dog for anything, I gather it's likely the insurance company would try to weedle their way of paying out for related claims/similar illnesses in the future.

i agree and would go with AXA. They were great when they underwrote M & S .. I moved one of mine (aged 9) from M & S to AXA recently - as the excess now he's reached 9 was veyr high -

Over £600 Shocked Shocked

I pay £14.89 a month for BOTH of my woofs through AXA.
Both are 3 years old and one has HD.

I'd get them to re-check that quote.

I would agree with Angela, you can't beat Petplan but v pricey.

I pay just under £90 for my three each month, but worth every penny for the peace of mind it gives you.

Have you tried getting a quote from Directline? You can choose between the life cover and the one that covers an ailment for just a year. I haven't used them myself - I've had Tesco for my 4 girls - but got a quote from them recently and they seem quite competitive.

Is it something to do with the age on the quote? looks like it says 0 years 2 months old.

We have just taken our AXA policy and it is £18 per month.
