I hate to plead like this, but does anyone have a training headcollar they no longer need which might fit Indy I can try?
We had used the Mikki harness (pulls tight under the 'armpits' when they pull), which did work really well but she grew out of it quickly and the cords underneath are quite thin which made me worry about chafing although they are rubber covered.
I've been taking her out recently with a normal collar and a harness with a double ended lead which again, worked to start with but today she pulled so hard, I've got friction burns on my hand
So, I'd now like to go down the halti or similar route, but I don't want to shell out for one which might not work, then go for another etc as we've already spent loads on the Mikki and now this harness and double ended lead. So, if anyone has one which they no longer need then I'm more than happy to purchase it from you for a 'second hand' price, or perhaps borrow it to see if it works, then let you have it back and I'll buy a new one?
Or, I can swap it for something you need.
Thank you all for reading, if you can't help then that's fine but I thought I'd at least ask...
I'm not being funny but she isn't 5 months old yet so I really wouldn't be using any "gadgets" on such a young pup.....training is the way to go.
Harnesses which tighten and head collars can damage soft, growing bones, really all I would want to see on a pup this age is a flat collar. If my pups get terribly excited or pully, I have a double ended lead which I make a big loop out of and drop it over the front of their shoulders, rather than have them pull onto the collar. This seems to balance them better and takes the leverage out of the pull.
I'll see if I can get a photo to show you what I mean, as it's hard to explain .
Another tip is to get yourself a leather training lead rather than a nylon one....much kinder on the hands.
I'd offer you one hun, but don't have one myself. Lucy can pull like a steam train at times, and i've been left with blisters and friction burns on my hands before! I find leather gloves help! Good luck with the training....i find if i'm gonna do some specific 'anti pulling' training with lucy, i take her out for a good run first, to get a lot of her 'energy' out of her, so she concentrates better on me and the training!
You'll have to excuse my furry slippers, the mud on Mojo's belly and the fact that she looks less than impressed at being treated like a "baby" .....But this is how I've taught the last few pups to walk nicely.
I'm sorry but I've never used a head collar at all on any of my dogs. So I've not got one.
I have used Jules's technique a few times in the past (in dog-manners-reminding emergencies), using a fairy long lead and had good results.
If you are looking for a harness that can help with preventing pulling on the lead, and one that does not have 'stringy' straps, nor gets tighter, then you might want to consider using something like a MEKUTI harness.

I don't know what she was more embarrassed about ...... being seen on LF covered in mud (I must brush that off in a mo) or being treated like a pup again and all the LFer's seeing her...Poor, hard done by Lass .
