He sounds wonderful , ( dont know if I am being out of turn and interfering , no wish to do that ) but I know that that battersea have a working dog rehomer and I think that it is through her that he could be posted on the working trials website ( it is free ). He sounds like he has working trials potential . Keeping fingers crossed that he finds a good home soon.

Message from Jackie @IRR

I`m afraid that Leroy is now having to go into Kennels on Sunday, which will not really help out his problems, but it`s our only option.

His current fosterer has had a death in her family, so can no longer keep him, as her mother needs her support now, which is understandable.

Is there anyone who has experience with a dog who have food & toy posession who could take this 6month old boy, I`m sure he would be grateful in the end, but probably wont show it now.

Just to remind you of the reason why he has these problems through no fault of his own.

He was found straying the in Ireland at the very young age of roughly 9 to 10wks old, just a lickle baby. He had learnt how to survive by scavenging and probably having to stick up for himself. He was handed into a vet who kept him for about 3wks I think, until our founder of our rescue, went in with a dog. The vet explained to her, that he couldn`t keep him no longer, and that if he couldnt find anyone to take him that day, he would have no option but to put the little one to sleep :crying: So what could she do, she had to take him, like any rescue would have done.

It`s very difficult to picture such a lickle dog being able to protect himself as well as survive at such a young age out in the world all on his ownsome, but he did, and now because of his hardiness he is finding it very hard to learn how to trust humans as well as other dogs.

I`m just wondering if there are any professional behaviourists out there or if anyone knows of one, who could take this boy under their wing, I think he deserves a chance to survive, after all he has been though dont you!!!

Just a quick update:

We sadly had to tell Jackie at IRR that we can no longer keep Leroy with us, I am struggling at the moment what with not being around much due to a death in the family, and right now my mum needs me pretty much all the time at the moment.

It is completely true what Nat has said, he does need professional help, or someone who has some thourough knowledge of how to deal with agression in the right way. I have done my best, thought I could do better due to sorting Missy out (however that did take me 10 months!!), but this guy is a jackyl and hyde. We have come on in leaps and bounds since he has been here, but have had many set backs.

The agression is in him, and rightly so due to his start in life, but its there all the same, and has come out on a few occasions, and needless to say agression towards humans is not something that goes hand in hand with be able to be rehomed 'anywhere', and its not just warnings, growling, snarling, it is more than that.

He is a truly lovely little boy, he loves his cuddles, loves playing, loves leaping about like a loony with the others. Food times, or when he has a chew etc is the ONLY time this guy turns into the scared, fearful, guarding little dog.

I worked out a plan, which I followed day by day and progressed wonderfully with him, and then one day, after weeks of being fine, he snapped and turned into the dog we hadn't seen for weeks. Both Dave and Chester have had blood drawn.

I feel he needs something more than I can give him, as looking back, Missy was a doddle compared to this little chap.

I can't express how many tears I have shed lately, and coming to the decision of taking him back to the kennels on Sunday (as there were no other suitable foster homes for him with his problems).

HOWEVER! I had an email from Jackie a few hours ago, and they have found someone who has said they will foster him with a view to adopt him!!!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy They know ALL about him, and have a rottie themselves (Leroy is lab x rottie). Jackie has spoken to them at great length today, as of course this chap can't just be placed anywhere.

They are being home checked tomorrow morning, and want to collect him as soon as possible, so please everyone, fingers crossed they pass, and all is ok... needless to say we are not taking him to the kennels on Sunday!

I haven't been around much on here at all lately, as my time has been taken up by other things, hence no update from myself until now.

I have just done this home check, and the people looking to take Leroy are wonderful. They are completely aware of all of Leroys traits...good and bad.
I have warned them that he does have a number of problems including aggression and they still seemd happy to have leroy and have training in place, they have a RAF dog trainer in the family Smile
Leroy is going to have a lovely experienced home all being well. And he is only 20 minutes from me so i will visit often.

Well done Suzy on all the work you have done so far.
