Has anyone bought any of the canvas dummies from here recently?

Have they changed? Confused

I'm not sure if they have or if I've got mixed up about where I bought my last lot from.
Todays delivery arrived and the 1/2 lb ones are ok - ish but the 1 lb ones are shorter, fatter and almost seem over stuffed. The canvas seems different too. In fact they look rather like the toy 'Mikki' ones in pet shops.

I don't really like them and am going to send them back (if they do refunds)

The 1lb's I have are in a nice softer canvas, and have a little soft give in them stuffing wise, i don't think it's from use I think they came like that.
Can anyone recommend a supplier of this type?

I'll swap you! I bought some from Mole Valley Farm online and I think they are a bit on the squidgy side! So if you are looking for softer ones... try them!

Thanks Fee, but I think I'll just wait until the game fairs now so I can see before I buy.

I called Turner Richards, they have changed them from customer request Sad
He pointed out that by the time I had paid postage my end to return and a scond lot of postage for them to re-send it wasn't really worth it.

I think I might just put a hole in it to de-stuff, it'll make them a little lighter but will have to do.

Also bought a water dummy from them which is massive Shocked Should have gone for the puppy one Rolling Eyes

All in all a bad bit of internet shopping on my part!

Thanks Andrew,

I see they even do a new 'softer' 1 1b dummy. I wonder what that's like.

Sarah... I have actually found having a range of different dummies to be beneficial when training. I have some that are harder, heavier and a different canvas to others. I have some with toggles some without, some different shades of green, some orange etc. etc. etc.

They all come out now and again to have a spin, as I think this keeps it interesting for Jake and also teaches them to pick different dummies without cause for concern - you never know if you go somewhere to train or to a test exactly what kind of dummies they will be using.

Fransan - there is usually a wide programme of game fairs up and down the country from spring through to autumn. Last year I posted a list that is available with the shooting times - I will try to do the same again this year, so keep looking.

For me the most important part of the dummy is the quality of the toggle and string that it is attached to! Too short string reduces throwing distance and accuracy and it needs to be robust enough not to come off when being thrown. The knot is also vital, and I tend to put a bit of superglue on the knot to try and stop it unravelling. Other than that I like to have a selection. If you can throw a fair distance the impact of hitting the ground seems to soften them up a bit.

I also find that using them in a mixed gundog class where some of the dogs mouths can be a bit suspect softens them up plenty!

Rach - thanks you are right Smile

I do have a range but Basil does find the bigger heavy stuffed ones quite a mouthful (almost seems to gag when he's presenting Surprised )
We're back tracking a bit on training as i've been grabbing recently so now he's keen to spit dummies.
I want to make sure I practice with lots of easy to hold comfortable dummies for a few sessions.

Plus *I* just don't like the ones I received yesterday. They just seem cheap Confused

I have a couple of these - they're like 'old' dummies and like them. I get mine from quest (cheaper and nice quality) and have a variety.
