" 'Bird down' was usually me hitting the deck. "
Laughing and laughing at that! Couldn't agree more,. I have more ankle injuries from walking up at Ampton than from all my days playing hockey as a kid!
I'd be trying to walk looking cool and calm, dog nicely to heel, but instead as all the Pros seemed to walk a few inches off the ground as if down a nice concrete road, I'd be staggering and toppling and weaving around falling over beet and slipping off leaves!
Fav ground, one I've discovered this year, Angmering Park, Worthing, West Sussex. Incrediable game, amazing drives and really friendly team.

For me it would be Balmoral the Queen's Estate up in Scotland. Its quite a few years ago now and not gundog related, but I went up there to do a Working Trials competition.
It was just a stunning landscape, in the middle of June, and one day we had snow the next brilliant June sunshine. I have some photos somewhere of us all wrapped up for the snow, then in our tee shirts fighting off the blessed midges!!!! Oh and my Weimy bitch tracked so fast she managed to drag me off the edge of "a rather large hill" and I ended up on my backside at the bottom with her impatiently waiting for me to get up and get on with the track .

Mine is Nantwich Shoot in North Staffordshire. Scenery is nothing to write home about. Very nice people, good shots and a variety of ground AND no b....y sugar beet!
I love the Scottish grounds, but they killed me, I only did a few and that was in my very early days when I was a spring chicken. Now I am an old, old hen - no chance!
